idle tomtoms

Postby dieselman » Sat Mar 01, 2014 11:58 pm

i own a few tomtoms and use a tomtom one for run of the mill journeys but use my tomtom go 530 for long distance and holidays. as i have a long journey coming up for a wedding i took my 530 from hibernation, charged it up and switched it on, only to find it showing the white cross on a red background. The computer sees it as a drive but wont communicate with it. I know the internal drive is gone forever but the sd function is o.k...So a word of warning, don't let your devices be idle for too long as tomtom internal memories are quite fickle.

If computer sees it as a drive would you not be able to format it and then try to update it via TomTom Home?

Have you attempted to do a "hard reset" and/or Main Menu, change preferences, "reset factory settings"? If nothing will correct this issue, I wouldn't be too concerned, since you still have SD capability.

computer assigns a drive letter but informs me that there is no disk in the drive, so can't format it or access it in any way. 2gb drive gone but that's not nearly large enough these days, so will just use it with my 8gb sd card.

If you can be bothered look at a third party partition software as they tend to have better options than windows. I think Easeus Partition Master 3.0 Pro is still free. I have used this to recovery many a dead drive, Int and Ext.

1. Load a complete setup on your 8GB card. With the card installed, the unit should have the same functionality, including the suggestions in post 4, as if you were using the internal memory.
2. Good idea, if point 1 doesn't solve your issue.
