Impossible to update map on GO 520

Postby sucesos » Wed Jun 27, 2012 2:31 pm

OK, let me see

1. Navcore updated from CAB file as supplied doing overwrite... DONE
2. TTsystem and model files copied to root in TT... DONE
3. Use FA 1.8.8.7 + D/L meta to patch additional map stored in SDHC... DONE with no issues
4. Reboot... all good, loads my pre-existing map OK.
5. Try switch to map on SDHC... TT FREEZES.

Any ideas or I'm being just too thick..?

3. Confirm you patched the map on the card (with the card in a card reader, not in the device) exactly like this: Put the new map folder, a copy of your device's ttgo.bif & FastActivate Premium 1.8.8.7 on the card. Patch the map. Put the card in your device & reboot.

Thanks for all your help carman+tendriver..!

Will try above suggestion once back with TT in hand.

BTW yep, when patching the new map

1. Copied ttgo.bif to SD card
2. Patched with FA in the SD card (NOT root). Done that by running SD card from my PC. All went fine.

Back to you soon.

Thanks a lot.

OK, tried the fix suggested by carman. Only to note the file CurrentMap.dat was in the root directory (no Currentlocation.dat file found).

Did reboot, showed me the option to load either of the 2 maps (original and new one on SD card).

Chose the new one, TT froze as before.

So back to square 1.

OK, something interesting just happened.

Re-formatted SDHC, re-installed new map and ran FA again. On root deleted (again) CurrentMap.dat which was re-generated.

Restarted device connected to my PC. Launched TT Home.

Went to 'operate my device' on TT home and got following msg (first time it happens...)

Your current location is outside of the selected map. Would you like to switch to this map: Europe_Central

Europe_Central is the NEW MAP that I'm trying to install. If I answer YES, however, TT Home crashes and TT gets into endless loop, so reset necessary. One thing is that it (seemingly) recognises the map

Any ideas..?

Update...

Tried the following and IT WORKED but didn't solve my core problem.

1. Decided to install a new version of the pre-existing map in my TT. From

United_Kingdom_and_Republic_of_Ireland_705_1480

to

United_Kingdom_and_Republic_of_Ireland_830_2306

2. Copied the map to SDHC, deleting it from root.

3. Activated as usual

4. Reboot.

5. The UK map LOADS WITHOUT DIFFICULTY so it shows the Navcore and the DCT for the new (updated) map are OK.

6. But the Central Europe map (v890.4222) STILL HANGS THE TT.

At this stage the only thing that pops to mind is that the 9.430 navcore DOES NOT WORK with the 890.4222 map for whatever reason. It does with the v830 one (as it did with the original v705). Navcore 9.430 is supposedly compatible with the 890 maps. BTW fact that the UK one is now also stored in the SD card means the card is not the issue.

Thoughts..?

You can pop that thought right back out of your mind. 9.430 & 890.4222 run quite well together.

I would say its a fault with the map you have downloaded.
I am running Central&Western Europe 890-4222 on my GO520 with no problem.
If you really need C&E Europe I suggest downloading the map again.
Good luck.

Also doing a clean install of Navcore and map on an empty device will eliminate any problems caused by leftovers from a previous install.
If all is going well, the mapsetting.cfg can be copied into the new map folder to keep the favorites.
The settings.dat in the root contains all the non-map-related device settings.

Put a copy of the Central Europe v890.4222 .pna file, .meta file and your ttgo.bif file in a folder. Zip it. Upload it & PM me the link.
