Impossible to update map on GO 520

Postby sucesos » Wed Jun 27, 2012 3:58 am

Right, newbie here, so excuse any stupidity in understanding the instructions in the tutorials. Want to upload the Central + EE map on my GO 520. Nothing I've tried has worked.

Updated Navcore to v 9.430

Extract of ttgo.bif file

[TomTomGo]
DeviceName=TomTom GO 520
DeviceVersionHW=GO 520
DeviceSerialNumber=M23...
DeviceUniqueID=AK...
RamDiskVersion=20120321
BootLoaderVersion=55120
LinuxVersion=842337
ApplicationVersionVersionNumber=9430
ApplicationVersion=890926.1
UserLanguage=English UK

Uploaded (supposedly) patched Navcore 9.430 from here. For good measure used EasyActivator and FastActivator. All results suggests it's patched.

Uploaded new map in SDHC card (4GB, FAT-formatted for good measure) and loaded ttgo.bif from root. Used META for Central_and_Eastern_Europe_890_4222 (published code confirmed by running RunForMeCode (information matches). Used EA and FA as re-check that map was installed, went with no glitches. DCT file created as requested.

Reboot the TomTom and get the irritating "you cannot use this map" warning.

As a test, made a back-up of the DCT for my original map (stored in the root), generated the META (and re-checked with published META for that map) and ran EA and FA. DCT created again. Re-started the unit. Maps again not accesible.

Replaced the newly generated DCT for my working map and rebooted again. All back to normal.

So...
Navcore is supposedly patched.
Maps are compatible.
Activation using known tools went without a glitch.
Maps not accesible

Only the original map with original DCT (NOT the one generated using EA and FA) works.

What the heck might be going on..?

I have a GO520 and allowed TomTom Home to update the navcore to 9.430.
Ran FastActivate to patch the navcore and have never had a problem with new maps.
Sounds like a re-download of the navcore would be advised.

Did that, re-patched with FastActivate (v1.8.8.7) but get 'your navcore has been patched already'. Weird.

Did you let Home update you or did you download a patched navcore?

My next move (assuming both navcore and map have been activated) would be to download another "small" map and activate that. This would then tell us if it is the navcore or the map that is at fault. If the new map loads then its the map that is not cracked or if the new map also fails then it most likely is the navcore.

Well...

If I use DCT for my pre-existing map and patch using meta file (code CROSS CHECKED is identical to original one) map does not load
Replace DCT with the original one, map loads fine

No map I patch work.

If you have patched your navcore correctly, downloaded the 890-4222 map, run FastActive by pressing the 2 buttons "update meta file" followed by "Maps" and you still have problems then its beyond me as there is nothing else I can think of.

1. OK. (supposedly)???
2. Where is "here"?
3. Mistake #1. Pick either of the patchers, not both!! Navitotal recommends FastActivate Premium 1.8.8.7.
4. OK (Format only if you have a known problem).
5. FA 1.8.8.7 contains ALL of the available 890 metas. Use of 2 patchers is addressed in point 3.
6. Patching is not complete.
7. We have the 2 patcher issue again.
8. To be candid, the answer is in your first sentence.

Put the new map, a copy of your device's ttgo.bif & FastActivate Premium 1.8.8.7 on the card. Patch the map. Put the card in your device & reboot.

And no shame in saying I'm a newbie, that's why I'm asking for help.

Take your advice. What I'm doing now is

a. revert to original Navcore
b. check that it boots OK
c. Update from TTHome to v9.430
d. Patch using FA with their metas. Go through all the sequence.

Let's see.

OK update.

1. Reverted to original Navcore... DONE
2. Check it boots OK... DONE
3. Update Navcore to 9.430 using TTHome... DONE
4. Apply FA, all 4 steps in sequence... DONE and NO ERRORS IN PROCESS.
5. Loads my original map after patching... YES, no problems now.
6. Tried to load new map (stored on SDHC card)... TT freezes, then goes into continuous loop. Only able to break by RESET.

Now what..?

a. Irrelevant & not necessary. You are trying to compare Apples to Oranges.
b. Same as a.
c. We prefer a direct download from TT with overwrite: [Please Register or Login to download file]
Don't patch 9.430 with FA. Download & copy these 2 files to the root: [Please Register or Login to download file]
d. FA 1.8.8.7 meta is up to date. Click the map patch button only.
