Installed 990 map... lost traffic.

Postby Gweedz » Fri Jun 02, 2017 1:21 pm

GO720 9.510

Went from USA_Canada 950_6492 (internal memory) to 990_8305 (on SD card).

Is there something I forgot to "activate" to get traffic working again?

The traffic icon never changes from the blinking arrow. Been waiting for almost a week now, clear skies, 1 hr commuting time.

FWIW I unplugged the antenna and it did give me a warning, so at least it recognizes the antenna.

Did you try resetting the device?

Also have a look at [Please Register or Login to download file] page

OK I reset it now and will try it again on my way home. Hopefully that fixed it.

I did look at that page and it seems to be only for devices with sim cards.

Thanks.

The reset did not help. It's been searching for a signal all weekend.

Any other suggestions on what I can try? I've noticed this only since installing the new map, so I'm wondering if I'm missing a critical file or something as simple as that.

Thanks.

I doubt it but compare the files between the old map and the new one

The best way to test it would be to restore the old map and see if it's working again

Is it perhaps a map feature? Gweedz is not using a full featured map.

All maps support RDS-TMC, but TomTom regularly make mistakes. You may have found one. Retracing your steps may help.
My local transmitter went off for over a week once. There was nothing on the news and the carrier Classic FM was transmitting normally. I had to drive over 60 miles before I could get a signal.
You haven't got a different car have you ? Heated and athermic windscreens cause the problem you describe.

USA_Canada 990_8305 is a fully featured map

Gweedz: see this post by Holyhead & check the files are present

I have not changed vehicles, or antenna position.

I still have my original map installed (950_6492). My new map was installed on my SD card (which I have now removed for testing purposes).

Comparing my backup folder with what's on the device, besides about 20 files with different sizes the only thing that stands out is in the statdata folder:
device has a file called: disallowtrip.dat
backup has a file called: allowtrip.dat

No differences in the actual map folder.

I will try swapping those 2 files. Then revert to the backup for testing.

Normally I'd rather have the newer map than traffic, but I have a rather large road trip coming up and feel traffic would be more useful.

Very strange thing I discovered.

With the SD card removed, the internal map connects to traffic perfectly fine.
With the card inserted, it just won't connect (keeps searching). This happens regardless of which map I am using; internal, or SD card.

So simply inserting the card causes me to lose connection to traffic - without making any other changes.

What could be the correlation between the SD card and traffic receiver?

That's weird, I've never heard of that before

As an experiment, try moving everything (all navcore files, maps, the lot) from the internal drive onto the SD card...leaving the internal drive empty and try it again

I can do that, but what do I do with the duplicate folders and files?

Besides the map folder, the SD Card has the following folders that are also on the internal memory:
bin
contacts
ephem
itn
logging
sounds

And then there are duplicate files:
clmdata
Integrated_meta
MyVersions
settings
ttgo
ttsystem
watchdogtrace

It seems the device created these folders and files on the SD Card as soon as I used the map.

Back all of that up then delete everything from the SD card and move everything from the internal to the SD card and try it again

OK I deleted sd Card, then moved everything from internal to SD.

Traffic works fine!

I copied the new 990_8305 map to SD card and that works too.

I could leave it right there, but I will try fitting 990_8305 internal (my class 6 card is slow and no point in buying a new one if I can get it to fit internally for free).

Ok good, it works

No, I wouldn't do that...just buy a class 10 card and put everything on it & run it all from there.
Class 10 cards are very cheap these days & they run just as fast as the internal does, plus if you get a 16GB you won't have any capacity issues in the future
