Just can't get map install to work

Fri Feb 01, 2013 12:23 am

I have a TT ONE v4

DeviceVersionHW=ONE(V4)
BootloaderVersion=53029
ApplicationVersionVersionNumber=7903
ApplicationVersion=9183

I had installed maps from Navitotal before and it worked. But that was a couple years ago.
Here's what I did:
1. Ran Fastactivate to patch TTHOME2. Successful
2. Downloaded United_States_900_4608 with Automatic Installer & Patcher
3. Deleted all files off the TT and ran the .exe file to install on the TTONE. I don't have an SD card in the TTONE, so I installed to the TTONE root drive. Got msg install was successful
4. Restarted TT, and got "no maps found."
5. Tried the same thing, only this time for step 3 I left the ttgo.bif and ttsystem files on the TT. Again got msg successful, but again "no maps found"
6. Tried to install leaving everything on the TTONE, but ran out of space during install
7. Tried adding the meta code from the maps to the META.txt file. Still "no maps found."

I did notice there was no .mds file created when I did the install, and I thought that was necessary. I tried to update my navcore to 8.010 via TTHOME, but TTHOME indicates there aren't any updates for my device. So I don't know if that would make a difference.

I have tried a couple other maps, but still end up with "no maps found." I have a feeling I am missing something simple, but, like the title says, I just can't figure it out.

Help(?)

1. Please use the current version of FastActivate as linked in the map thread
2. Ok, you can keep the map folder on the device, if a .dct file is present delete it
3. All files? That leaves nothing to work with
4. See above and be more specific about was deleted or not
5. Without a ttgo.bif the map can not be activated
6. See 1

There are no mds anymore.
It should work with map folder and ttgo.bif if the current version of FastActivate is used.
You can also try the Memory Boost version of my 9.485 or 9.430 to be able to use the full featured maps and computer voices.

Hi Downunder, thanks for responding.

1. I did use the most current Fastactivate from the map thread. I ran it on my computer to patch the TTHOME program, and that worked. I also tried to run it on the TTONE itself, but I got a message that the navcore had already been patched.
2. IfMaybe I'm not understanding correctly, but right now my TTONE has a folder "USA and Mexico 1GB 880.3868" on it. Do you mean leave that on, and still do the install? There is also a map folder "Guam." I leave the map folders on the TTONE, won't I run out of space during the install again? Those files take up a lot of space, especially the cline.dat file. There were 4 .dct files on the TTONE before, but they were only 1KB each
3. To clarify what I deleted: the first time, I connected the TTONE to the computer, then I moved everything in the root directory of the TTONE to my computer just in case I messed up. So the TTONE was empty. That's when I tried the install the first time, and got the "no maps found" error when i restarted the TTONE afterward. So, I again wiped everything off the TTONE, but this time I put back on it the original ttgo.bif and ttsystem files that were on it before I ever started messing with it. Then I tried to install again, and it again seemed to work, but when I restarted the TTONE I still got "no maps found." Finally, I tried to put all of the original files back on the TTONE and run the install, but ran out of space again.
4. Do I need to run fastactivate again after the install? I thought from the instructions on the map thread that that wasn't necessary if you use the automatic installer and patcher maps.

3a. That's when I tried the install the first time, and got the "no maps found" error when i restarted the TTONE afterward.
3b. So, I again wiped everything off the TTONE, but this time I put back on it the original ttgo.bif and ttsystem files that were on it before I ever started messing with it. 2. Remove the USA & M map folder.
3. Totally unnecessary, but OK, no harm done.
3a. At this point, did you install a navcore & a map folder?
3b. At this point, was the navcore on the unit the same version as the version that this ttsystem file came from? If not, please note that you can't intermix ttsystems files with different navcores.
4. If your 4608 map folder has a meta.dct file in it, then the map is patched & you have an un-patched navcore issue.
"No map found" is the classic error message for an un-patched navcore.

Run TomTom Current Configuration {13.11.2011} & post the results here.

Hi Tendriver,
2. Do you mean ONLY remove the USA&M map folder, or remove everything including that folder?
3a. No, I didn't install a navcore. As I said, I did run the fastactivate on my TTONE and got a message that my navcore was already patched. I would have liked to put a newer navcore on the TTONE (to go from 7903 to 8010), but the only way I know to do that is by connecting to my computer and TTHOME, and when I did so TTHOME indicated no updates were available. So in the end I didn't install any new navcore. After that, I tried to install the maps by running the .exe file that was in the "United_States_900_4608" package, and pointing the installer to the root of the TTONE. The chart on the maps page showed this map as compatible with my navcore, so I didn't think I needed to install a new navcore.
3b. I'm not sure I'm understanding. I didn't change my navcore at all, so what was there when I tried to install the new maps was navcore 7903, the navcore I started with. The ttsystem file was the file that was on the TTONE before I started to do anything. So I guess that means they were the same version, as the TTONE was working fine before I started to try my upgrades. But again, I made no attempt to update/upgrade/change my navcore, other than to try to patch it with fastactivate before trying to install the new maps.

As to Current Configuration, here is what it looks like after my most recent failed attempt:
TTGO.BIF:
DeviceName=TomTom ONE
DeviceVersionHW=ONE (v4)
BootLoaderVersion=53029
ApplicationVersionVersionNumber=7903
ApplicationVersion=9183
TTGO.BAK:
Not Found...
TTGO.ORI:
Not Found...
TTNAVIGATOR.BIF:
Not Found...

It was identical to this before I tried to install the maps.

1. Let's get your unit up & running with 7.903, then we can look at a newer navcore.

2. Remove only the USA&M map folder. Copy in the 4608 map folder. Patch the 4608 map only if there isn't a meta.dct file in it's folder.
Download a clean version of 7.903 with the link below. Copy the ttsystem file only from the download & paste it into your unit, replacing the current ttsystem file. Patch the new 7.903 ttsystem file with the current version of FastActivate. Disconnect & reboot.

THANK YOU! Tendriver and Downunder, you are my heroes.
I think the key was that I did indeed have to patch the map. This time I did so by running fastactivate from in the maps folder. I don't know if that made a difference, but in the end it worked.
Thank you once again.
