Manually changing a bootloader

Tue Apr 15, 2014 10:13 am

Hi everyone. I have read and struggled with understanding but finally managed to get everything to work with all your help on my TomTom one v1.
I have now bought a TomTom One new version (4N00.012) and am trying to update the same. I have copied all my patched working files files over on a new SD card deleted .bif file and allowed tomtom to create new one, everything works fine BUT it will only upgrade the bootloader to 5.3209 even though my original card had 5.015 and my tomtom one v1 has bootloader 5.015 which I am happy with. Can someone please explain how I manually upgrade bootloader to 5.015 so I can use 4GB SDHC card. I have searched for this info, including going to tendriver's last September discussions, but perhaps I just did not understand where or how I get my ttsystem to update. I have already updated on tomtom home, I have also used Fast Activate 11-04-2014. My One new edition just seems to be stuck on 5.3029 no matter what I do.
Just to confirm it is currently working perfectly with map UK & I 890_4222 and version 9.061 I just want to run Europe 890_4222 which is 2.4GB. Any help would be appreciated, thanks

1. Put b/l 5.5015 on a less than 4GB card, disconnect & reboot. Your unit should now have b/l 5.5015 & will accept your SDHC card.
2. Why Europe 890_4222. 925.XXXX is the current edition.

Quoted from your post 1. "my tomtom one v1 has bootloader 5.5015". You can copy it.

The b/l file name is simply system.

Thanks, that's what I thought. I used the ttsystem file from my V1 files but no change, still stuck at 5.3029 I did try to load another file I had system (5.5001 I think) that just loaded up to where it was about to open map but then just shutdown and stated rebooting itself again and again.
Would it be at all possible for you to send me a copy of the right system file then if it does not work I know it is not the file at fault. I cannot believe this is proving so stubborn. sorry to be a pain.

A huge thanks, that did it, not sure what was wrong with my files.
Your earlier reply got me thinking though. what do you think would be the optimum set up on my various Tom Tom One V1, V2 and V3 versions. I thought that B/l 5.5015 and 890.4222 with 9.061 was the best I could run on these old versions? I run 2 SD cards one UK&Ire and one for Europe.

Why Europe 890_4222. 925.XXXX is the current edition. I asked this earlier, but you didn't reply.

Sorry - the reason I was running 890_4222 was because I thought this was the newest edition available to run successfully with version 9.061 on my Tom Tom One. I'm under the impression I can't update my Tom Tom further. will any 925.xxxx run on 9.061 and b/l 5.5015 ?

1. What made you think this? It is totally untrue!!
2. Where did you get this wrong impression??
3. ALL 925.XXXX maps w/ meta codes will run on 9.061!

Enormous thanks for all your help. The answers are
1. Old information, could not find update.
2. An old document I had from GSM Forum.
3. Great - Have now found post No 1 from Popeye showing current 925/6 details.
I am going to try 925.5412 UK & Ireland first, hope it goes smoothly.

Nothing to it. Download & unzip the new map folder. Remove old map folder from your device. Copy new map folder into the device. Patch map with FastActivate option 2. Patch navcore with option 3, if not already patched. Disconnect & reboot. Done.

Tendriver, thank you for your patience and support. With the confidence from you I have now updated all my TomTom's to 925.xxxx maps and road tested them today successfully. Could not,and would not, have achieved it without your help and guidance.
