Hi,
i have a tomtom start 2 (a 4:3 screen) and would like to update the map.
I have done this before on a navman with tomtom without problems. I'm now trying this for a tomtom start 2 and have failed so far.
What i've done:
- I've backupped the tomtom start 2
- i've removed the map that was installed from the device
- i've installed a new 860.3100 map and ran fastactivate. When starting up the tomtom it says in a red screen that the map is not okay. I've also tried a 860.3101 map. With same result
- I restored the backup and the old map is working again.
Have I missed something? Is the update procedure wrong? Am I using unsupported map numbers? Some help will be appreciated.
With kind regards,
Sam

1. What navcore is installed? Confirm that you have patched it.
2. Confirm that the map was actually patched by looking for a .meta.dct file in the map folder.

Hi, tendriver,
Thanks for your reply. How can I tell what navcore is installed? It's the original that came on purchase.
I do not believe i've patched navcore. I was unaware that i had to do this first. I've only done the steps described in my initial post. Would the "Automatic Installer & Patcher" in the map thread do this?

Open your Start2 with windows explorer. Open the ttgo.bif file with notepad. Line 9 is the navcore version. It may be 9.053.

Download & unzip.
[Please Register or Login to download file] Copy the pre-patched ttsystem & PNDNavigator files into your Start, overwriting any common files.
Disconnect & re-boot

thanks tendriver,
just a quick question about the risks.
Is my understanding correct that I can always remove all files from the mounted drive and write my backup back to the device to return it to the state it was before i made adjustments?

In your case, to return to original state, just replace the pre-patched ttsystem & PNDNavigator files with the unpatched ones in you backup & replace the new map folder with the old map folder.

Hi Tendriver. Thanks a lot for your help. I can confirm that returning the device to its state before adjustments also works. Unfortunately that was necessary.
I am doing this for my father-in-law and he is quite a creature of habit. He dislikes the menu being different in the patched version and the speed camera warnings were missing. So he wanted the old version back despite of the old map it had.
So i'll now be reading on the forum to see how i can keep the menu he had and install the speed camera warnings.

No problem. Open notepad. Type in ori. Save as model.txt. Reinstall the new map folder along with the patched ttssystem & PNDNavigator files plus the model.txt file. Reboot.

Wasn't that one of the complaints? Try it and see.
