Thanks for the info. Probably you are one of the youngsters who do not know what "DOS" is .... lol
On the contrary I do not understand why you say 20-40 Mbs is a small amount of memory to waste, I will give you two examples:
a) I have a GARMIN (the TT unit belongs to a good friend and respective hacking is done for a friend of mine) Recently they published the EU-maps JUST above the 2GB, so I cannot use my 2GB SD cards which I have - I can delete some countries of course and squeeze it down - but they made NO effort (I believe) AT ALL to OPTIMIZE it.
b) Every time Microsoft makes a new version of s/w (take office for example) you need a new processor and MORE MEMORY which (sometimes your old machine cannot support) (not to mention that they add a few useless things or improve only the interface) I HATE THIS!!! Why? I have more than 10 computers at home (different generations!!!)
My first computer was an APPLE IIe w/64k (I repeat 64k) RAM (
Cost 3000 US$ w/printer -Year 1984, where you born then?) and my 1st PC was a PC-XT unit w/640Kb RAM. My first programs were written and developed on this XT Unit. I had to spend a lot of time to OPTIMIZE my programs within my limited resources (even changing procedures into ASSEMBLY language to save SPACE (RAM) and INCREASE speed). Searching for the best/optimum compiler (and not INTERPRETER) was a continuous effort. Nowadays you have nice IDEs which require a ... MAINFRAME in your PC to run it (Try to run an MS-ACCESS application). Now they develop or upgrade s/w w/o caring about your old h/w To run a new program "acceptably" you must have the top-of -line h/w. Of course electronics are cheaper now but still there is no "sense of economy" on this planet called Earth. Sooner or later we will pay for this and we will pay TOO much and we will be very sorry for what we have done.
Sorry, but I am an old guy, coming from the previous generation (or from another planet) and I cannot accept this wasting of resources.
I hope you are not angry w/me but I have lived a whole life w/limited resources...and spent A LOT OF MONEY on these things ... hahaha - ;-)
Best regards and sincerely THANK YOU
George
