Hello,
I am getting this message "Your RDS-TMC traffic receiver cannot be used in combination with the current map" on my XL330s, after hooking up the power cord/traffic receiver from my wife's XL340TM. Can my 330s be updated with the navcore and map from the 340 and theoretically, if I use the 340's power cord and traffic antenna, the traffic option should work on my 330s?
Here is the version information on my 330S (as displayed by "version detail" on the device");
- app ver 9.026
- os 473972 (1010, 12/15/2009)
- gps 1.20
- boot 5.5011
- usa_canada (ver 850.2783)
Here is the version information on my 340TM (as displayed by "version detail" on the device");
- app ver 9.056
- os 541764
- gps 1.20
- boot 5.5136
- usa_canada_mexico P (ver 855.2934)
The 340TM also has lane guidance, this would be nice to get on my 330S as well, wishful thinking I bet, but just getting a proper traffic cable to work on my 330S would be fantastic! Is this possible?

Yes it is possible to emulate another device,
if you use 1 of our SE versions of navcore you can create a .txt file called model.txt in the root of your device and inside this file you put the model you want to emulate x10 , x20 , x30 , x40 ect ect , so you will have x40 inside to emulate the 340
Also lane guidance is a map feature and it is possible to have on your device as long as you download a map that contains IQ Routes + ALG see the map chart in our map topic

How much memory do your 2 units have?

I'm not sure on the amount of memory, but in the version information screen it says "64 MB ram, 15.5 MB free" on my 340TM and "32 MB ram, 4.1 MB free" on the 330S.
Could I copy all the files out of the 340TM and out them into the 330S (obviously backing up the files on the 330S first)? I would suspect I would need to run some kind of a crack on the 330S after copying the files, possible?

The above is operating memory. To see the
storage memory, open Windows Explorer, right click the device drive, then left click Properties.

The 340TM;
Capacity -> 1.91 GB
Used -> 1.82 GB
The 330S;
Capacity -> 978 MB
Used -> 890 MB
The 340TM has Mexico on there as well as a map, I would only need the USA and Canada map, but traffic is essential. I could do without the lane assistance, if that saves any disk space?
Do I need to update the Navcore on the 330S to accomplish this or just find a map that would work that handles the traffic feature?

1A. Yes, the navcore can be upgraded. No, you can't put the 340's USA, C & M map on the 330 due to lack of storage memory. You have 2 maps to choose from. USA & C 855.2931 or 2981.
1B. I have no idea.
2. Neither of the 2 maps, that you can use, have lane guidance.
3. To my knowledge the map has no bearing on traffic reception.
Bottom line, I am doubtful of you getting traffic on the 330, but "nothing ventured, nothing gained".

Ok, thank you tendriver, I will try the maps you mentioned out. When I use the 340TM's power/RDS cable out on my 330S, it seems to work for a short period, then I get the error message about the RDS receiver not being "compatable" with the map (red screen)? Is this just a way of TomTom telling me that it "sees" I'm using a "not for this gps" RDS receiver?

Your 330s is
RDS-TMC ready. There is only 1 RDS-TMC antenna/receiver. Have you read the Traffic Info section in the 330s manual? Also, here is a link to the RDS-TMC Receiver Support Guide. [Please Register or Login to download file]
