XL , Navcore and bootloader

Postby XL350 » Mon Aug 03, 2015 4:21 am

I have an XL 350 2GB TTS. Purchased in 2010 and used very little. Recently it began booting up randomly. And became unstable.
I decided to update it and installed tomtom home on my pc. I first made an explorer backup, formatted, scanned disk and then let tomtom home update. I saved my map and copied it back after update. Erased flash a few times.
Here is info from original ttgo.bif

Code: Select all
[TomTomGo]
DeviceName=TomTom XL
DeviceVersionHW=XL
DeviceSerialNumber=GK**********
DeviceUniqueID=AK2Z4 ******
RamDiskVersion=20100618
BootLoaderVersion=55244
LinuxVersion=539302
ApplicationVersionVersionNumber=9103
ApplicationVersion=539753.2
UserLanguage=English US
UserName=
LastConnectionTime=Never
GPSFirmwareVersion=2.15.0 65947

Here is info from new ttgo.bif

Code: Select all
DeviceName=TomTom XL
DeviceVersionHW=XL
DeviceSerialNumber=GK**********
DeviceUniqueID=AK2Z4 *******
RamDiskVersion=20130404
BootLoaderVersion=55244
LinuxVersion=842337
ApplicationVersionVersionNumber=9510
ApplicationVersion=1234792.2
UserLanguage=English US
UserName=
LastConnectionTime=Never
GPSFirmwareVersion=2.16.201 77382

Since I'm still experiencing random boot up's and as a last resort to accepting the probability it's all due to defective hardware, I'm curious as to why the bootloader didn't update with the software?

TT didn't include a bootloader in 9.510.

I unpacked the new NAV cab and looked at the install.bif file it shows this ->

Code: Select all
[TomTomGo]
RamDiskVersion=20130404
BootloaderTarget=s3c24xx
Bootloaderversion=5.5279
LinuxVersion=842337
ApplicationVersion=1234792

Being a novice, but it appears to me based on that file they meant for ( Bootloaderversion=5.5279 )
So you're saying the bootloader would come separate from the software? Doing it all at the time of software upgrade through TTHome seems like the logical way to do it. Or maybe, am I just looking at this wrong?

1. BL files are titled SYSTEM. Look in "the new NAV cab", as long as you want to, but you won't find a system file.
2. No, I'm not saying that at all. I'm saying that 9.510 doesn't have a BL.
Reason: At the time 9.510 was released, it became the current navcore for a good number of existing models. To include a BL in 9.510 would have required a bunch of different versions for all of the different models. Easiest Fix: Continue using the pre-9.510 BL.
3. Based on the answer to #2, #3 doesn't require one.
4. This is an accurate statement, with you being a novice. LOL
