New TT Home Version

Tue Jan 31, 2012 7:13 pm

TomTom Home version 2.8.3.2499 is now available.

Wed Feb 01, 2012 2:44 pm

Hi .. Yes I fired up Tomtom Home and it advised me that this was a "Critical" Update .. So I let it do its thing (You have no choice actualy) and it has installed this new version 2.8.3.2499. Now when I connect my TomTom Go920 running Navcore v9.151. I get the "Select your navigation device" box. When I click on Internal memory TomTom Home crashes.

In System Info of TomTom Home I have this ...

* HOME info:

DLL Version: 2.8.2.2264
MapShare DLL Version: 2.8.3.2499
Language: en-US

Looks to me like there is a mismatch here ....... ?

I have tried using Fast Activater and Alberts Easy Activator to Patch Home but neither of them seem to be able to fix it?

Any ideas? Will we have to wait for a new patch?

Regards Mike

I also took the update for TomTom Home version 2.8.3.2499.
My TT is working fine but do I need to do tthome patching again?

Hi - I fixed it by going back to the old version of Home .. This is what I did.

Uninstalled the new 2.8.3.2499 version.
Installed the old 2.8.2.2264 version .. But don't let it start/run
Right Click on Notepad and open as administrator
Go to C:\Program Filesx86\TomTom HOME 2\xul
Edit the application.ini file ... Where the version says 2.8.2.2264 .. Change it to 3.8.2.2264 .. Save the file

This will fool TomTom Home into thinking you have a very latest version of Home and it will think that v2.8.3.2499 is an old version and won't try to install it.

Until TomTom actually do get to a version of Home higher than v3.8.2.2264 you won't ever be bugged by forced updates to Home again.

Now my TomTom Home works fine again . . Map Updates, Run Tomtom etc all ok :yahoo:

cheers Mike

You do have a problem.

Mine reads:

DLL Version: 2.8.3.2499
MapShare DLL Version: 2.8.3.2499
Language: en-US

Do a TT Home reinstall.

After installing new TomTom Home found that TT Home will not now recognise SD Card from card reader, still recognises when installed in TT device though.

I have a 4GB card with a map & a ttgo.bif file on it. The new TT Home recognizes it with no problem. So it isn't a TT Home issue.

Re-installed new TT Home, everything seems fine now, thanks Tendriver.

No, not until you change your navcore.

You did a lot of work for nothing. All you needed was to reinstall 2.8.3.2499.

Maybe .. but I did try that and it wouldn't work for me. :(

What I did made it ok again and all now works ok .. no harm in sharing optional solutions on here is there Tendriver? :mail1:

If an issue can't be fixed, an optional solution is OK. However, in order to give the HIGHEST QUALITY service to our members, Navitotal prefers to fix the problem, rather than offer an unnecessary work around solution, such as yours.

Maybe .. but anyone in the same situation as I found myself may benefit from the alternative workaround solution I provided as against the so called "HIGHEST QUALITY" solution you offered, which was to simply re-install Tomtom Home, may not actually work for everyone. Hence no harm in sharing alternatives or other options mate.

Maybe not competely unnecessary:
I did some tests with the 2.6 version - the last before the big clean up.
The things I noticed to be different to the current Home version:
I get the 8.398 instead of the 8.351 offered as the latest application (Navcore).
Vocalizer voices (even Karen) show up under manage my device, but they show a warning that I can not use them on my device.
Last but not least: you still get a dialog to log into your account when downloading a voice/Navcore etc. but you can close it and the download/installation starts without logging into any account.
Quite useful if you mess around with more than one TT.
For the Carminat I get the warning that the plugin is not supported, which is expected as this version of Home was before Carminate Live times.
So I think for someone that that not like forced Home updates and is happy with his version it can make sense to change a little ini file.
But that's only MHO ;)

1. Once all of the "fix" options for an issue have been tried, then a work around, such as yours, might be appropriate.
2. No harm in sharing alternatives or other options at the appropriate time mate.
