Hi did first part ok but then realised bootloader was at 48600 hence needed to update to 5.5120 to allow 4gb card for western Europe map.
I followed instruction on putting system file in root of sd and resetting but it looks like unit died. I've got green light when you press on but doesn't start up
Tried different things like reset by holding power and reset for 30secs also press on then remove card press on then put card in and try again.
Nothing works any ideas pls?

Checking bootloader
(the only reliable method)Enter a device reset 15 sec.
Then turn on the device and hold the start button until you
get info screen. Which bootloader is there.

Did you get this working yet? Happened to me and thought all was lost ..After trying a few things this is how mine came back to life...connected to pc with sd card inserted which had a full backup of my go 720 on it, green light came on, then I inserted a pin in reset hole at bottom of go 720 push slightly and you will feel it press a button then while still connected to pc held the go 720 on off button for about 20 seconds and got drumroll and it rebooted and connected to pc and was able to see content and all was working.
Do not know if same would work if I did not have backup on sd card.
Worth a try...

Never update a device with Bootloaders 1.0100 and 1.0200 you got a brick.
I expect this method is not working it was special development for
bricked devices with Bootloaders 1.0100 and 1.0200 (ONE V4 and V8 models)
not Go 720 with another bootloader.
These devices only work with navcore 8.041 which means you can only use basic
maps.

What else can you do if you went wrong with a Bootloader update?
You could light a candle and stare at it in adoration, but if that will lead to success I have strong doubts about that.
Bootloader 1.0100 and 1.0200 have been made, from what I have read about it, to undo hardware errors.
In principle, without knowing it, several buyers bought a less good device.
I myself have no experience with this possible solution, but what do you have to lose?

You have nothing to lose because it is already bricked. You can always,s try it and maybe it works but I wonder if you like the basic navigation if you used to the more advanced from the 720.
