Old TomTom updateable?

Old TomTom updateable?

Postby Zeppelin » Mon Jun 02, 2014 8:04 pm

I'm looking to do an update for the first time on an old TomTom
From tutorials the important data is
DeviceName=TomTom GO 510
DeviceVersionHW=GO 710
DeviceSerialNumber=
DeviceUniqueID=
RamDiskVersion=20081205
BootLoaderVersion=48600
LinuxVersion=2344
ApplicationVersionVersionNumber=7903
ApplicationVersion=9183
UserLanguage=English UK
UserName=
LastConnectionTime=Never
GPSFirmwareVersion=GSW3.2.4TT_3.1.00.12-C35B1.02

So can this device be updated?
If so I notice there are two App Version No.??
The map is on a sd card

Would the panel recommend I can give this a go or should I entertain myself otherwise :081:

It can be updated, Maps, safetycams, POI E.T.C. but not the Navcore (software) 7903,9183. Which is the latest original Navcore from TomTom for your device.
You could try modified Navcores, which allow more features, but I only recommend this if your understanding of these devices is very good.
Latest maps you should be putting on your device as it stands are 930_5601
All the info you need is here just search the forums....
Hope this helps.

Give it a go!! Nothing ventured, nothing gained!! What have you got to lose?? Enuf cliches.
Take a read here: Universal Navcore Installer
Your map selection will only be limited by the size of your storage memory and/or the availability of a usable map (a map with a meta code).

OK Thanks,
Read all the info, just to be sure... if I put new map and navcore on an sd card, the device will then run from the sd card with all files deleted (but backed up!) from the device?

Stumbled at the first hurdle.
Ok, connected device to comp with original card and shows up ok as TT (64 free of 484mb). Take card out and it shows as 'removable disk' therefore no access to files or info. Tried inserting new sd (8gb) card and it wont read it (too big?).

Surely there must be files on the device itself and not just the sd card? If so how do I get at 'em?

There are no user files stored on the TomTom, It is not recognising you new card because it is 8gb which means it is an SDHC card
(High Capacity).
The bootloader you have on your device is version 4xxxx and will only read SD cards up to 2gb, so either use a 2gb SD card or you need to upgrade the bootloader to ver 5.5, search the forums for more info on the bootloader before changing it.

Bootloader 5.5015 or higher is required to run a 8GB SDHC card.
Here is a copy of bootloader 5.5120. [Please Register or Login to download file]
Download, unzip & copy it into your 2GB SD card replacing the current system file & boot your device. Once it is fully booted, your device will read your 8GB SDHC card.

Have you tried a 30 second hard reset?

Yes, but absolutely nothing, nada. Tried with and without card, power and battery, connected to comp and disconnected. 30 sec reset...nothing

If you can still connect to your puter, have you tried running [Please Register or Login to download file] 2 or 3 times??

Unfortunately the device simply does not turn on- connecting to comp was just a test to see if anything would happen, it didn't. Battery is charged but the device is totally dead.

Unzip [Please Register or Login to download file] . Copy it to your 2GB card. See if it will wake up your unit.

No, didn't work either. Think that as the device doesn't even turn on without a card that its a brick :010:
