TT One 2GB, friend wants one map to get from UK to Greece

Postby roydrage » Sat May 25, 2013 3:18 pm

I put Western Europe and Central and Eastern Europe (885) on this PNA but I can tell that he is not happy with the result. I seem to remember older TT maps of Europe complete coming in at under 2GB, maybe?
I stripped the map out of the iphone app, 905.4755 but of course no meta for it. So my question is:Is there a map under 2GB that will take him from the UK to Greece?

No. If your friend can find his own way to the Chunnel, he can use Europe_East v910.4892 (1510MB) for the rest of his trip.

Thanks tendriver, I will sort that for him. I looked at stripping out the POI file and any other non essential stuff from the 2GB maps that are`nt really 2GB but they still weigh in too large.

Excellent! I shall try. Curiosity had me looking to do the same thing last night and I was surprised to find this:
From 885 Europe maps and from 885 Western and Central Europe maps,5455
Hope I have attached the image correctly.
I assume the cline.dat file is the TT map body and the richer detailed maps have a much larger cline.dat. My point is, if you look at the "Europe" and the "Western and Central Europe" cline.dat files there are multiple duplicates even between the two different maps. I thought the countries coverage was very different between those two. Is there any resource here on Navitotal that digs deeper into this matter? The same duplicates appear between the cnode.dat files and other key files.

My attached image is a rubbish 1st attempt!

What are you trying to accomplish with these 2 maps that are 5 Editions out of date?

Those 885 maps, the Western Europe and Central and Eastern Europe maps were loaded to a puny TT One with the internal 2GBflash due to the size limitations of the Europe (whole) maps. I knew that my friend was a tad disappointed that he would have to pick a place to switch maps and navigate again (I know:o).
My filefactory account is lapsed until I require another huge download spree so I utilised what I had on realising the newest Europe maps where also to large to fit on his puny navigator.
I have learned a little today and would like to learn more. I downloaded downunders 1.75 GB Europe map and it compares with what I have worked on earlier today on the Europe 910 4892 map.
I am probably with my friend on not wanting to re navigate mid journey but have no such concerns as I use a TT720 with a 16GB flash.

Ah I see you refer to the attached png image. Since I posted that I have looked at the other cline.dat files in my 885 collection which is very complete. There are numerous duplicates of the cline.dat file within the various country maps. I assume that file is the core of the map and am intrigued to see the exact same file size listed in differing maps. Specifically European maps.

Does Downunder's map not fulfill the desired coverage need?

I still don't see what your desired goal is here.

The desired goal is accomplished tendriver. My original post concerned not being able to through route on a puny <2GB TT that I wanted to update for a friend.
Downunder35m posted that it was indeed possible to fit a sub 2GB map all be it with much rich data missing.
Before downunder posted his reply to a <2GB Europe map I was searching to cut down an existing 910 Europe map. I looked amongst the most complete collection I have to find what differed between maps and came to a conclusion that much could be stripped for a user not requiring rich data.
I had already assumed that this had been done but could not find the appropriate search.
The inclusion of the image comparing the cline.dat files was to ask why there appear duplicates in two completely different map products.

1. I asked about your desired goal from monkeying around with the 885 maps.
2. In post 2, I told you how to do it with all of the rich data intact.
3. There are numerous files that are common between maps, but that doesn't mean that they can be stripped out.
