TT One v3 & TT One XL IQ updates & queries

Postby niki265 » Wed Mar 21, 2018 10:13 am

Hello, Noob here first time trying to update any TT device outside of TT Home and I have a few questions please (sorry if these are FAQs). I have 2 TTs which I still like to use due to their Itinerary Planning functionality, support for custom POIs and their simplicity - don't need any of the new features.

I've been working my way through various threads and tutorials in this forum and think I have the gist of how to update (thanks to all contributors!), but still have a few questions I'm not able to answer.

Any help, much appreciated. Ultimately, just updating existing maps on both devices would be fantastic.

ttgo.bif snippets from the 2 devices I'm trying to update are as follows:

-------------------------------------------------

DeviceName=TomTom ONE
DeviceVersionHW=ONE (v3)
RamDiskVersion=20081205
BootLoaderVersion=50500
LinuxVersion=2344
ApplicationVersionVersionNumber=7903
ApplicationVersion=9183
GPSFirmwareVersion=GSW3.2.4TT_3.1.00.12-C35B1.02

BIF file does not list CurrentMap or Version, but from the device it is:

Map: Western_Europe_1Gb v652.1185

-------------------------------------------------

DeviceName=TomTom XL IQ Routes Edition
DeviceVersionHW=XL IQ Routes Edition
RamDiskVersion=20130404
BootLoaderVersion=55277
LinuxVersion=842337
ApplicationVersionVersionNumber=9510
ApplicationVersion=1234792.2
GPSFirmwareVersion=2.16.201 77382
CurrentMap=Western_and_Central_Europe_2GB
CurrentMapVersion=830.2305

-------------------------------------------------

Questions
=========

(I will be sure to do a full non-Home backup of both devices before making any changes!)

1) I'd like a more up-to-date map to cover UK and Europe if nothing else. Ideally UK, France, Germany, Austria, ** Slovenia **, Italy and Switzerland (+ Spain/Portugal) with one map, but not sure if that is possible due to size increases? Would the "Central_Europe 1005 8767" versions fulfill this need for these devices/NavCores/capacities etc?

TT One v3 1GB with NC 7.903 > Europe Central 1GB 1005 8767
TT One XL 2GB with NC 9.510 > Europe Central 1005 8767

If these aren't suitable, can you please advise which map options would be best for each device or is there any list of which maps cover which countries please?

2) Trying to download the above maps (using latest Chrome on MacOS) redirects me to the correct location I think, I click on the blue Download button and the download of one of the 7 part files begins. However, when I attempt to download the next part file, all links continue to take me to the same part number (always part 6 in this case)? Is that correct, the downloaded part file is only 200MB? I assume you need to re-assemble all 7 parts via WinRAR to get the above map? Am I doing something wrong?

3) For the TT One v3 with SD card slot, I'd like to expand it's capacity from 1GB. I believe the current boot loader version (5.0500) supports up to 4GB (FAT16 limit)? Or I'll need to update the bootloader to support up to 8Gb (or 16GB max?) SDHC card? Any recommendations on best bootloader version and SDHC cards please? Or best to leave this alone and stick to a 4GB SD card...?

4) Also regarding the TT One v3. Is anyone running NavCore 9.510 and/or larger SD card on a TT One v3? Does this slow it down dramatically at all? I like the current speed of NavCore 7.903 on the device as it is (compared to TT One XL which is dreadful), and don't think I need any of new features? Is there any need to update the NavCore on my TT One v3 or can I keep going with 7.903 + an updated bootloader for larger SD card support?

5) Can you install multiple maps on the same SD card at the same time and switch between them on the device?

6) Can you run all of the NaviTotal updates via MacOS? I assume not as need to run the FastActivate.exe? I have Windows in VirtualBox on the Mac, but struggling to get the TT devices recognized. If all else fails, I do have an old Windows PC I can use, so just curious really.

7) I understand first 4 digits in the map number are the EDITION and second set are VERSION, with all VERSIONs released at same time by TT? What is the difference between the map VERSIONs within each EDITION? Again just curious!

Any advice, suggestions or links much appreciated. Ultimately, if I can just update the existing Western Europe maps on both devices and nothing else, that would be fantastic!

Many questions and a short answer
You're a member since may 2012, you must be able to find the tutorial part of the forum, there are most answers on your questions

viewforum.php?f=80

I've not much exeperiences with downloading via Filefactory for free, I know from uploadet.net for free 1 part every hour
Most uploader use as standard 200mb each part.

I would suggest a Bootloader update, started from 5.5022 which is the lowest for SDHC above 2GB

There's a lot to cover here x2 devices so I'll keep it as brief as possible so you can do some more research...

1. A One XL and an XL IQ Routes are very different devices...the One XL has 32MB RAM and an SD card slot whereas an XL IQ Routes has 64MB RAM and no SD card slot.
It makes a big difference because you're wanting the full Europe coverage but you won't have the space available on the XL IQ Routes device to contain it.

Europe Central does not include the UK, Spain & Portugal

2. Forget this for now as you could be downloading the wrong map. Yes, you will need to download all parts of the map.

3. Again, leave this for now. The full Europe 1005.8767 map is 2.80GB which will fit on a 4GB card...you can update the bootloader later on if needs be.

4. If you prefer the speed of NC 7.903, that's fine. Most people want the advanced features of NC 9.510...see point 7

5. Yes, you can

6. Mac's are a PITA...you may have to use a Windows PC if you can't get access to the devices.

7. Yes, you're correct regarding the edition and the version. TT release new maps every 3 months and they change the edition (series) number to suit. The latest series of maps are numbered 1005. The version numbers are different because they produce different maps for different navcores with different features. It might sound confusing but it's all explained in the tutorial here

In a nutshell...you need to research/download a map which is suitable for your needs, is compatible with your navcore, is small enough to fit on your device...and has a meta code (serial number) already released so the map can be activated.

I recommend you start with an easy one to understand the process. So download UK & ROI 1005.8763 for your XL IQ Routes and install/activate that and go from there.

Thanks for replies both. Yes, I registered here quite a while ago, started looking around initially and then got distracted and never updated any devices back then. Hence I'm still a Noob and effectively starting from scratch in terms of learning the process etc.

A couple of follow-on questions (sorry!):

1) How do you determine BEFORE download what the total size of a given map is? Is there a list posted somewhere that I've missed? Eg how do you know the "Europe 1005.8767 map is 2.80GB"?

2) What is minimum you can get away with in terms of features? All I actually need are an updated map, basic voice guidance, POIs and Itinerary Planning functionality. I'm not bothered about Advanced Lane Guidance, IQ Routes, ASR for example. Hence looking at the blue maps on the 1005 compatibility chart, 1005.8767, 1005.8768 etc

3) Can I confirm if the Text To Speech feature is the same as the basic voice guidance? Or is this an add-on over and above that feature? ie if you have a map that DOES NOT include TTS, you will still get voice guidance as normal?

4) Do the meta activation files apply to more than one map or does there HAVE to be one for each, eg could these two maps use the same meta file?

Europe Central 1GB 1005 8767
Europe Central 1005 8767

Thanks in advance!

1 = Some uploader add the size to their links
2 = When you have the possibility to use SDHC up till 32GB, why less
3 = As far as I know TTS is not available on your system, spoken instructions with normal voices or funny voices possible
4 = meta code is only for one single map, sometimes with a little trick also for another

5 = My question = Where are you going to drive most of the time, my coiche
Europe 1005 8763
Navcore 9.510 for 32mb devices
Bootloader update to, which I like very much, 5.5128

1. I've got all of that information to hand...I'll have to post it up here
2. You don't really need any of the more advanced features..a 1005.8767 map is just fine
3. TTS is an add-on feature...you still get the normal voice guidance without TTS
4. Each meta applies to only the one map but they can be used for another map in certain circumstances...see here

Many thanks for further info both, much appreciated.

We tend to use the TomToms for trips around Europe, so using a map that covers as much as possible in one go would be great, such as Europe 1005 8763 mentioned above which should be perfect for the TT One v3 with a fast 32GB SDHC card (eg SanDisk Extreme?).

Looks like the problem is then going to be the One XL with it's 2GB limit (I'm not going to try soldering in more memory :o).

For the 2GB TT One XL IQ, does anyone know the total size for the following map please as that would cover all countries we need, or is it still >2GB?

Europe_Central 1005_8819

When back in the UK, I can then swap to a UK & ROI map only for the TT One XL IQ.

If there is a way to free space by removing other features, happy to do that too... eg only need the one default Jane voice.

Thanks in advance!

Re: TT One v3 & TT One XL IQ updates & queries

Postby niki265 » Thu Mar 22, 2018 10:23 pm

Thanks very much for the map size info above, extremely useful!

I've successfully upgraded the bootloader version on the TT One V3 to 5.5128 so it should now be able to use >4GB SDHC cards with a new 32GB Sandisk Extreme Pro arriving tomorrow - probably overkill, but thought the faster the better and you can always use extra capacity :)

Once the bootloader update is completed, can the new 5.5128 system file be removed from the SD card, or does it have to stay there permanently?

I'm also downloading a few maps (after checking the meta file is available first) to try a few options and see how the various map versions compare for the TT One XL (2GB fixed capacity). The 1005_8819 variations seem to be smallest while providing good coverage. I just hope they will have sufficient road detail.

Just remove the file system from your device.
Mind you when you are going to isntall another Navcore, if there is a file system remove it also.
Which maps do you prefer ?

Thanks for the pointers re the system files. I will remove them.

I'm currently in the process of downloading Europe_West_1005_8819 which at 1.18GB should tick most of the boxes for the 2GB TT One XL IQ I have assuming there is enough road detail included.

From what I have read, the maps starting with "Europe" are less detailed than the maps starting with a compass direction/Central, eg:

Europe_West_xxxx

is less detailed than

Western_Europe_xxxx

?

The size of the map will tell which have the most details ?
But it's difficult to compare Central Europe and Europe Central is more easy to do

Europe_West_1005_8763 --- 1.20 GB
Europe_West_1005_8767 --- 1.37 GB
Europe_West_1005_8819 --- 1.18 GB
Europe_West_1005_8823 --- 689.54 MB

Western_Europe_1005_8763 --- 1.98 GB
Western_Europe_1005_8766 --- 2.03 GB
Western_Europe_1005_8767 --- 1.93 GB
Western_Europe_1005_8823 --- 1.84 GB
Western_Europe_1GB_1005_8819 --- 1.22 GB

Thanks for above snippets, I was comparing these too. Will have to try a couple of them and see if I can notice any differences!

SanDisk 32GB Extreme Pro card arrived today... not sure if I've gone beyond what my TomTom One (v3) can read though?

I've updated the bootloader to v5.5128 which has been successful and device still boots/works as normal with the original 1GB SD card.

I then tried NavCore 9.510 + UK & ROI 1005 8763 with latest version of FastActivate which all seemed to check out ok.

However, when I power off the TT One, install new 32GB Extreme SanDisk card and power on, I get the splash screen and then the reading SD card screen indefinitely...?

To test the new SD card, I've also deleted everything and copied my original 1GB SD card backup as is (without using FastActivate etc) onto the new 32GB card and still get the same behaviour...? ie TT will not boot and stuck at SD card read stage...

Can anyone confirm if the TT One v3 (NOT an XL model) should be able to read/work with a SanDisk Extreme Pro 32GB SDHC card (Class 10 / U3) under any circumstances? Or have I bought the wrong card type!?

Thanks in Advance

I've no experiences with the extreme Pro cards, but I'm using SDHC Class 10 on most of my devices.
Be sure the format is Fat32

OK, so it seems my TT One v3 does not like the super doopa SanDisk Extreme Pro 32GB card :p

I've just dug out an older, slower 32GB Samsung SD card and copied my original 1GB SD card backup onto it and TT has booted fine!

Time for a bit of an SD card re-org then and give the camera a speed boost ;)
