One v4 update suggestions please

Postby jokskot » Thu Jun 28, 2012 3:53 pm

I'm moderately experienced & competent at updating 3 different models of Tomtoms.
However I'm seeking advice on updating a friend's unfamiliar model. I suspect the Navcore and map are pretty archaic.
The following summarises the information which is readily available:

Model: ONE v4
Serial no.: AKX** AJF**
Navcore: v 6.560
Maps: Western Europe v 660.1256
App 6560 (7914/061211)
OS 1713
29MB RAM
GPS v1.21
Boot 5.05

the device has a SD slot but there is no memory card fitted.

What update of memory, operating system and maps would you advise? And in what order should these be carried out?

Archaic is an understatement!!

What area coverage is desired?

Thanks for speedy response.
Current area required to be covered is Western Europe (they live in France) but potentially they may wish to use the satnav anywhere in the world. So flexibility to substitute other maps is essential.

Current navcore is 7.903. I would load that on the internal. Bump the bootloader up so the unit will read a SDHC card. Put one of Downunder's 9.4XX navcores for 32MB units & desired map on the card & patch as usual.

Thanks for the information

"Bump the bootloader up" How do I do this?
So you're suggesting I put a 9.4xx navcore on the SD card in addition to the 7.903 on the internal memory?
Which navcore would boot when I switch on the device?
Forgive me if I'm being slow with this!

1 By installing Bootloader 5.5015 or higher.
2. Yep. This will keep the internal memory as a stock memory.
3. Unlike a GO, that can use the internal & a card at the same time, a ONE is either or, but not both. There must be a navcore & map on the card to use it, & it becomes the default setup when inserted.

Thanks again for rapid response.
Where would I get and how do I install the 5.5015 or higher Bootloader? I'm totally unfamiliar with this. Is there a links on this site or a tutorial to follow?

Every navcore (except the 9.4XXs) has it's own bootloader. 5.5015 is the bootloader for & can be copied from navcore 8.300.

I'm still not clear about how I would install bootloader 5.5015; you've recommended upping the internal navcore to 7.903 (which presumably doesn't have the required bootloader) and putting a 9.4xx (which you say doesn't have a bootloader) on the SD card.
Where would bootloader 5.5015 come from?
