Problem with 'Europe_1GB_West_880_3868 with Automatic Instal

Sat Feb 04, 2012 4:58 am

I have tried to install 'Europe_1GB_West_880_3868 with Automatic Installer & Patcher' but it runs out of space, even when I delete everything on the TomTom first. I have therefore re-installed the original version from backup. But why did the install fail? What might I have been doing wrong please?

Remove everything again. How much free space does the unit have??

It has 1026621440 bytes (979 MB) 'Free space' and 16 KB 'Used space' having removed all files and folders.

The version of 880 I am using was downloaded in December 2011 so it is rather old - is that still the latest?

The current edition is 885, but I don't think the maps are getting smaller ;)
Are you running the installer from the device or your PC?
If you don't run the installer from your PC it would explain why you run into space problems.

I am running from my PC.

BTW, It will install if all previous files are removed, but not if ttgo.bif and ttysystem are left (which I understand they should be?)

You only need the TTGO.bif for a clean install using Home.

I am running the auto-install from my PC, but not using Home.

I don't actually know how I would use Home to access autoinstall?

Or are you saying that auto-install (without Home) does not need ttsystem?

Sorry, my fault.
If you use the Autoinstaller the ttgo.bif should be enough and even if completely missing you should be able to select the correct drive letter for the installation.

Which will be released in 1 to 2 weeks.

Those 2 files have nothing to do with installing a map, except for the space that they occupy.

Infinat is doing a map update, not a navcore change.

You're right, my fault.

I noticed that my 'used' space with all files and folders deleted has gone up to over 3 MB, and when I then tried to install 880 on the bare device it would not fit. So I have restored back to version 725.

I don't know why my 'used' space on the bare device has gone up, but I don't seem to have any option but to give up now, because I assume it would be unwise to re-format the TomTom - correct?

Before you quit, try loading the map, a few files at a time. Start with the big files & work down to the smaller ones.

I note that 'Europe_1GB_West_880_3868' (not the auto-install) is said to be only 760MB, so I would like to try that route, but I need a pointer about how to do the non-auto install please?

Remove the old map folder. Copy in the new map folder. Patch the new map folder with Auto-FastActivate 1.8.8.1 Read the instructions carefully.

Did that (used AutoActivate) but I now get 'you cannot use this map on this device: Europe_1GB_West'.
(Its a TomTom XL). I first ran AutoActivate from my PC, then from the TomTom's map folder - no diff:(
(AutoActivate seemed to think it had uploaded the Meta data okay). Sorry - but any other ideas please?
