"Problem with map" after following "How to update a 32mb Wid

Postby mrlongest » Wed Dec 01, 2010 3:24 pm

I carefully followed the steps in djc151084's thread "How to update a 32mb Widescreen TomTom Device" and have ended up with the message "Problem with map. You cannot use this map on this device: Europe-226".
My setup:
I've a TT ONE XL (model 4S00.000R) running very well under BL 5.5128 with (on a 4GB SD card) NC 8.414 and a Western Europe 835.2419 map. It's become often out-of-date and I wish to install (on another 4GB SD card) a later map of Europe (also with ALG and IQ).
Following the above update instructions I loaded the NC and tts 9.205 on the new SD card. (This new card had a complete working set of folders copied from my current SD card).
The charts show Europe 860.3102 as a suitable map (the best since it includes HNR). I downloaded and then extracted that map to its folder in the SD card's root, ran AutoActivate successfully, rebooted my TTONEXL with the SD card, and the aforesaid problem message duly appeared.
After several reboots, I then tried running the FastActivate options. No change - same problem message.

From note 4 in the FastActivate instructions it seems possible that the NC should have been activated before the map was. Is that why I've the problem? Or is there some other reason?

Help please!

Yes, You need navcore 9.02x -> if you want use 860.3102

EDIT: i see you install automatic navcore installation 9.205 ? HERE

do you have ttgo.bif file in root of SD-Card before you run FastActivate ?

1. This error message is telling you that either the map or navcore is not patched. Navcore 9.205 in djc's tutorial is pre-patched. Confirm that you copied both the ttsystem & PNDNavigator files from the 9.205 ttsystem.rar onto the card.

2. FFR, HNR only applies to Russia & Greece, but no harm done by using 860.3102. Confirm that opening the 860 map folder, on the card, reveals map files and not a single map folder. While you are looking in this folder, confirm you have a .meta.dct file.

3. Note 4. See 1. above. FFR, it makes no difference when you activate/patch an unpatched navcore.

In answer to PiEtU' s question; yes, looking at my 'old' SD card (which was copied onto my new card before starting the upgrade process) I must have had a ttgo.bif file in the root of the SD-Card before added the NC and new map and then running AutoActivate. (I didn't run FastActivate until later.)
The new ttgo.bif file now contains no values for the line CurrentMap, and the CurrentMapVersion=0.0

Answering Tendriver:
1. I can confirm.
2. Yes, I did ensure that the map files appear in the map folder in the root of the SC card. There's no intervening map folder. But I can't find any .meta.dct file. Hmmm?

Ok, then as suspected, your map is not patched. Rerun AutoActivate. You might review the instructions in the AutoActivate thread first.

Sorry, I've re-run AutoActivate from the SD card root many times - to no avail. Inspite of the actions shown on the AutoActivate screen, the ttgo.bif file remains unaltered, and there are no .dct files at all.
Also I can't understand what the note 4 in the AutoActivate thread means...viz:
"Note 4: If you want activate maps directly harddisk copy tt*.bif c:\MY.BIF, then activator works inside map directory and activate all sub directory too."
Kindly improve and clarify the wording in that note (even if it won't help me in this case).
(My card reader uses harddisk H: partition on my PC).

What else? Could the map be corrupted in some way? I hesitate to go through the lengthy downloading and extraction processes again!

Is there another suitable and current map (with IQ and ALG) that I could download instead?

Thanks for your interest and help so far!

Ok, lets take it from the begining.

Inspite of the actions shown on the AutoActivate screen, the ttgo.bif file remains unaltered, and there are no .dct files at all.
The ttgo.bif file should remain unaltered. It's only purpose during the patching procedure is to be a source of info, that the patcher needs.
There isn't a .dct file because the map is not being patched.
1. Put the map folder on the card.
2. Put a copy of the device's ttgo.bif on the card.
3. Copy the keygen to the card.
4. Confirm that the keygen meta.txt file contains the meta for the map that you are patching.
5. Run the keygen & confirm that a meta.dct file was created in the map folder.

You not need care note4: it is for harddisk activation, you not need do that for sd-card/device activation... open your TTGO.BIF file from sd-card and send details to here...
(you need AutoActivate.exe & ttgo.bif root of sd-card/device)

what is keygen error message...?

1. He is loading a card, not a device.
2 I missed any reference to an error message.

3. KeyGen renewed on card's root (AutoActivate.exe)

4. Keygen meta.txt file contains (META.TXT contains BD 34 3D 04 C9 BC 7A F2 24 92 8F C7 93 09 8E 22 Europe-226.meta ; Europe 860_3102)

5. Ran the keygen and I again confirm that NO meta.dct file was created in the map folder..! Answering PiEtU - there was no error message from the keygen.

Any other ideas?

Thanks PiEtU. AutoActivate now showed more info on screen, and resulted in just 3 extra dct files:

Europe_226_meta.dct in the map folder,
data71.chk.dct and data85.chk.dct in the voices folder.

And the ttgo.bif file now shows the new map details.

Regretably now when the SD card is inserted into my ONE XL the device freezes on the TT icon (the splashw image) that appears after the card has been loaded.
I've tried resetting with both the ON/OFF button and the 'hole' to no effect. In fact I have to use the reset 'hole' to switch the device off in order to remove the card.

The interesting thing is that before the map was patched the device worked normally and just stopped (not frozen) at the map selection screen. Now it doesn't get that far.

Finally I've just proved that my device works as normal with an older SD card (and map).

I still need help...

I'm delighted to tell you that I now have a fully working map!
After using ClearFlash with no effect, I finally 'took the bullet' and did a clean install of the NC. Problems resolved. So thank you PiEtU!
The main problem I had was the ineffective patching - which you solved PiEtU.

May I add that your expertise is much appreciated PiEtU. I fully understand what you are achieving with English apparently not being your first language. Pitkern speakers must have difficulty with modern English!!! (Hmmm? only some 47 people resident in Pitcairn...)

And tendriver, many thanks to you. Your knowledge and clear advice is always welcome. You were a great help to me last year in the old gpsund'ground site.
