I think I made it sound like the route was very complex, it was simple for the unit, it was me that had the problem as some parts had changed but probably my fault for not updating the map (not anywhere near the crashing of the TT though) however I didn't have time as it was a sudden journey I had to make, which is unusual for me and as I'm still a dummy updating it takes me some time to get it to work. This time I seem to have selected the correct map 186 with advanced features but I only actually need the ALG function.

Yes, the ALG function is very useful but it does consume extra memory of the device. The swap file should help with this situation on older units like yours.

dave1938 wrote:I looked to me as though the GPS reception was lost and it did it at the same point on both return journeys but not going at the same point on the outgoing journey or else I would have suspected power lines or buildings blocking the signal. Whatever went wrong must have prevented the unit powering on again after turning off as both units were completely unresponsive to power on again till the card was removed, then they powered up and down, refit card and then powered back as normal and functional. But I had to get home so didn't have time to do this on the journey.

Sorry I didn't think to look at the time but will if it happens again but have a feeling the unit had locked up / crashed.

No, I meant does your TT One display the time ok or is it permanently showing 0:00? If it is always showing the time as 0:00, then it is highly likely your device lost it's satellite fix and it needs a more permanent fix.

I will let you know if I have any other problems if you don't hear then all is well and I suspect it will be.

Best wishes, Dave.

No need to apologise mate, I was only pointing it out as it is good forum etiquette and will save you some typing
Fingers crossed you won't have any more problems

Hi Fred

Serious problems here. I downloaded the map 1050 10186 and noted your advice to go to your link ([Please Register or Login to download file] ) as was a problem with Fast Activate (yes it didn't see the 10186 map even) and ran it from the root of my TT. Kaspersky said it was a Trojan virus and went crazy doing advanced disinfection on my machine. So everything was returned to normal and my PC is OK now (it's usually something really bad if it does the advanced disinfection routine) but back to square one and no new map. The TT One seems to still work (or start up anyway) showing first the need to select a map (I think "it" could see the 10186 was there but said it couldn't be used) so I selected the old 1025.9386 and back to where I began now.

I always have trouble hence why I tend not to try but with this problem of the unit freezing on me (both units) I needed to update it.

Any ideas please as I don't have a clue what to do without Fast Activate and another one that's a Trojan virus and I go away in a week. Ha, ha you should expect problems when I contact you sorry Fred.

Best wishes,
Dave.

Ok Dave, it would be easier to start again because although UK & ROI 1050.10186 is useable, it is actually the wrong map (please delete it) and secondly, FastActivate has been a pain recently. Anti-virus programs wrongly think that FastActivate contains a trojan...it doesn't, it's called a 'false positive' and I can assure you that it's perfectly safe to use. So please proceed as follows:

1. Temporarily turn off your Kaspersky anti-virus and download [Please Register or Login to download file]
2. Copy the old map folder (UK & ROI 1025.9386) from your device to a safe place on your PC
3. Delete that map from your device as well as any old copies of FastActivate on there too
4. Extract the archive you downloaded from step 1. to your device (this includes an advanced map and the necessary FastActivate files)
5. Locate & open FastActivate.exe on your device and select option 2 to activate the map
5a. If you want the latest SpeedCams, download this file & extract the 2 x Safety_Cam_UK_Premium files (PW: navitotal) to the new map folder and re-run step 5.
5b. If you want to retain your recent destinations etc from the old map...copy mapsettings.cfg file from the old map folder you put in a safe place on your PC & paste it into the new map folder on your device.
6. If all went well, disconnect the device from the PC and test...and then turn your anti-virus back on.

Job done

Dear Fred

Actually the fast activate ran fine it was the other one you sent me the link to (EasyDCT_Maker-II v8.79b) that made Kaspersky go crazy. But FA although it ran it didn't see the new map (1050 10186) at all so that instantly remined me you said there was a known problem with FA so I ran the EasyDCT_Maker-II v8.79b, you know the rest.

Sorry which map would you rather I download I don't think you said, just not to use 10186.

I wish I didn't keep downloading the wrong maps, I really thought I understood this. What is wrong with the 10186 selection and perhaps I might learn from my mistake as if it should work but not ideal then I can learn from knowing why.

I am trying it ASAP but needed to check back that I download the correct map and I have the speedcams and zip postcodes at least I know how to do that correctly.

Best wishes,
Dave.

PS...Sorry I am aware that you provided me with United_Kingdom_and_Republic_of_Ireland_1050_10226 but thought you said it didn't have advanced features, hence me assuming it wouldn't have Advanced Lane Guidance. (My reason for asking which map you would like me to use, hope this makes sense). I only want the ALG and think that's about all my TT One V3 would support anyway due to hardware limitations. But if you think that map (1050 10226) is good for me I will use it as already downloaded it.
All the best, Dave.

Oh I see, you already gave me the link - United_Kingdom_and_Republic_of_Ireland_1050_10177 - sorry Fred I assumed it was a new link to fastactivate! Cheers! Dave.

We've been having some problems with FA behind the scenes so EasyDCT_Maker-II v8.79b was a temporary solution. We've now got a good FA workaround so we're reverting back to that.

The best UK & ROI map is 1050.10177 because it has all of the advanced features like ALG etc. I didn't mention it by name but I did give you a direct link to it in my instructions step 1. above.

It can get complicated but the reason is that there are 3 different generations of satnav mentioned on the compatibility chart: NAV1/NAV2/NAV3.
You have the oldest generation = NAV1 so when you look at the bottom part of the compatibility chart you should be selecting a NAV1 map to download.
However, in the past we upgraded your old satnav with a NAV2 navcore 9.510 so now when you look at the bottom part of the compatibility chart you should be selecting a NAV2 map to download.
The problem with the map you downloaded (1050.10186) is it's a NAV3 map and contains some extra files that are not compatible with your NAV2 device.

So because we've been very busy with the FA problems...and you downloading a NAV3 map in error, I decided it would be easier to start again and write out those detailed instructions above with direct links to the correct files. Incidentally, another member called Gandolfo was in a similar position to you, so I pointed him to my instructions for you and he was successful...so I know you will be too.

Yes, you can put both maps on at the same time if you wish...or put the advanced map on one device and the limited featured map on the other one:

United_Kingdom_and_Republic_of_Ireland_1050_10226 = limited featured map with no ALG etc but would be less RAM hungry on your device.
United_Kingdom_and_Republic_of_Ireland_1050_10177 = fully featured map with all bells & whistles including ALG but very RAM hungry.

The reason I've mentioned both of those is because you still haven't told me if your clock works properly or not so I'm still trying to guess what your initial problem was.

Being as you're just about to go on holiday with it, I would install both maps so if the fully featured ALG map falls over like before...you can restart your device on the road and use the other less taxing map without the extra features. In other words...you'll have the best of both worlds.

Dear Fred,

Seems rude not to let you know all is working fine now. I will see how they perform on the road but sure they will be OK.

Should I update FA from it's window? I did that on my other version and it didn't see this new map so I followed your instructions, deleted it, added the one in your link but didn't update it in case and it patched the map & speedcams.

Incidently, Kaspersky didn't have a problem with FA and never has for me. It was that other program it didn't like. Hope somebody gets FA stable again as I love it, always worked for me in the past and so simple to use as was your idea! All the best Fred, Dave.

Dear Dave1938,

That may take a little longer, because of some strange actions on my server I had to close them, only for supporting the meta.txt file I made an exception.
Do not update Fastactivate but provide the latest meta.txt yourself.

Fredderf is also aware of this, so he will take an appropriate measure, I expect.

Dave1938,

EasyDCT-II works fine and is around for years (at least 8 years to my knowledge)
It is simple to use to (compair to FastAktivate) it's just what you're used to.
Furthermore, it is always useful to be able to use another simple activation
program. As you have already noticed sometimes program's fail.
