I want to put some pois on my tomtom one xl how will I go about this and is there any software to dpo this?

You don't need any software, just search the net for your POI's and then place them inside your map folder

Hi also connect to tomtom home.
and add poi from there to your device.

What you can also do (and perhaps it's the purpose of your question) is add your own POI category and populate it with your addresses.
Change Preferences-Manage POIs-Add POI category.

The advantage is that if you have many addresses this works better than favourites which are limited to 48 entries.
