I have managed to get a version working now.
It's v7.91 and it's working with Western Europe map 850_2782.
It's thanks to a guy called Guidorenato. Look up TomTom7-WinCE-4.2-without-memory problems.
Follow his instructions.
It involves downloading his TomTom v7.91(I knocked out all the voices that were no good to me), then finding the map, which I managed. As well as downloading his mapsettings.cfg file.
I loaded his program on an SD card along with map.I ran it to get a .bif file so I could activate the map and produce a DCT file using 'autoactivate.exe'.
I then put his mapsettings.cfg into the map folder.
When I loaded it, it loaded with a route. No GPS yet. I configured all the settings and then the GPS and it worked.
It planned a route to somewhere in Italy I think. I deleted this route and planned a route to my local town and it works.
I also loaded up the SD card with music and junk and left only 2.5 MB, just in case this was a factor as well. I haven't tested that side yet, because it works and I don't want to mess it up.
I leave a route on it when I shut down.
It just goes to show that it has nothing to do with not enough memory. but everything to do with program paths and missing links.
Right, I have now road tested this and it is brilliant, even faster than the version I already had working.
No corruptions in it either so far as I can see. None of the 'getting the wrong flag with the wrong language' and that kind of thing that I have found with some other versions.
Thanks again, and for those that have failed on cheap chinese WinCE 6.0 devices, there must be hope.
