Running TomTom 7.910 on a generic Win CE 6 PNA - Memory Prob

Postby spillpot » Thu Sep 16, 2010 10:05 pm

I've purchased a very nice 5" PNA off ebay. It came with iGo8 preloaded and working fine. I've also loaded iGo Primo successfully along with the Navigo V2 Menu (bbmenu). However, I'm having problems with TomTom. I'm using the same files and map that I've used successfully on a Navigo V2 for ages, but having patched the files on this new device TomTom refuses to load with a 'Unable to Start. Not Enough Memory is available' error.

This new device has 128MB of RAM where as the Navigo only has 64MB. However, the new unit is running WinCE 6 rather than 5 as on the Navigo.

I've seen some suggestion in other threads that WinCE6 is the problem, but strangly TomTom loaded before I patched the map (obviously with the activation error).

Can anyone suggest how I can get TomTom working on this WinCE6 device?

Try using 7.450, You'll need to repatch your maps etc.

The problem is not with WinCE6, it is Tomtom that is causing all the trouble.
But maybe this can help.

I am also running 7.910 in a no brand WinCE6.0 without problem, just upgraded to the v855 maps

spillpot- I don't know if you managed to sort it but I can tell you how to fix it I believe. Try using a different map, if you go to the tomtom comparison chart you will see which maps are compatible with your device. I am 90% sure thats your problem. You are trying to install a map with all the trimmings whenit can't be done. Let me know how you get on.

Tomtom version 7.450 works on most versions of win ce, sometimes you may need the dll pack that you can get from other forums.

Thanks for the advise. Unfortunately nothing seems to be working. I've tried using the following maps, all of which produce the same "Out of Memory" error when TomTom tried to load:

Western_Europe_1GB_840_2561
Western_Europe_1GB_845_2666
Europe_2GB_850_2801

I've tried these with 7.910. I've also tried a "beta version for WinCE6" from Dodobird (I believe) but can't seem to get that to work. That version always says map not activated in Spanish despite the correct DCT files being created.

I've read in other forums that WinCE6 seems to be the problem, especially for devices with 128MB memory, although some people have managed to get it working.

I haven't tried navcor 7.450 as I can't seem to find it anywhere. I've used a WinCE5 Navigo v2 for a while, having updated the maps many times with no problems at all, so I'm pretty comfortably with the process. But this new device is baffling me.

My friend, it appears that your only problem is your device is out of storage memory. You have referred to your 128MB of Ram memory, but not storage.

I'm sure it's not a storage or real memory problem. My device has 128MB RAM + 4GB of internal storage (called Nandflash). In addition I have an 8GB MicroSD card (called SDMMC). The 4GB Nadflash came with iGo 8 installed. I've added bbmenu to allow me to run multiple apps from the Navigation button. There's still nearly over 700MB of free space on this drive. The 8GB SDMMC drive has iGo Primo and my attempts at TomTom installed. There's still over 3GB of free space on that.

The 128MB RAM is the memory for running stuff in. My old Navigo v2 only has 64MB, as do many PNA devices.

From what I've read elsewhere TomTom seems to be having a problem addressing memory due to changes in the dll's with WinCE6 and is incorrectly referencing the wrong memory addresses and creating this Out of Memory error. I have more memory than most other devices.

Obviously, the 3 maps listed above will not load onto your internal memory with only 700MB free. I am a bit confused by the references in red, about TomTom load & TomTom install.

I think we're talking at crossed wires. I've loaded the maps onto the SD card and there is still plenty of free storage left. On My Navigo V2 I'm using a 1GB SD Card with the Europe map taking nearly all the space on the card and it will run TomTom quite happily.

The text in red you've highlighted was just me refering to the TomTom install I have on the card (and isn't working - hence this post); i.e. a folder with the TomTom 7.910 files and relative sub-folders, plus a folder containing the Map files.

I appreciate your help and suggestions, but I'm sure I'm not really running out of memory - It's a WincCe6 issue combined with this particular PNA device I have.

Can't link to it but 7.450 is widely available, I can't get 7.9xx to work on any of my WinCE devices.
