Sector protection: no

Wed Jun 26, 2013 3:56 pm

I've got a issue with below device which is not causing any problem as far as I can see but perhaps it's advisable to take preventive action?

The boot-screen when resetting shows me a red bordered message:
Sector protection: no

GetMy-CFG v2.53
===============
DeviceVersionHW=ONE XXL Classic
ApplicationVersionVersionNumber=9510
TTSystem 4509872 bytes, modified 26-06-2013 15:09
PNDNavigator 8177884 bytes, modified 26-06-2013 16:58
BootLoaderVersion=55281
RDS/TMC 'mctx.dat' size 212 bytes
CurrentMap=Europe_South_910_4892
CurrentMapVersion=910.4892
HelpFileVersion = 20090617

What to do if anything ? Thanks in advance.

It might help to know what you are resetting & why?

No particular reason. I was planning to update it and wanted to check the specifics of the device and the BL version.

Was nc 9.510 already installed when you got the XXL? If you installed 9.510, what procedure did you use to do it

No kiddin' ?
I'm in the habit of googling that for myself and searching on Navitotal, but did not accross any clear reason, ailment, malfunction or cure.

But thanks for a valuable course of action.

No, Tendriver, it was an older NC and I updated to current version via TT Home.

The message was there before the update and it is still after the update.

This is the TT Team's first encounter with this issue, so it's gonna be the old saying "the blind leading the blind"!!! We will try the simple cures first & work toward the more complex. You may have already tried some or all of these. I'm just making sure that we don't overlook anything.

1. 30 second "hard reset".
2. Main Menu, Preferences, Reset Factory Settings.
3. Run "Clear Flash" several times.
4. Remove 9.510 & install the original navcore.

Like me you've probably read elsewhere that sector protection should be set to :YES. How you correct this nobody seems to know.Good Luck.

Thanks, Tendriver, I did 1. and that obviously did not work.

4. The issue was present before upgrading the NC. I hoped that the newer NC via TTHome would solve it but alas. I don't think that putting it back to an earlier version will do any good.

I did run a disk check via Windows but that found no errors.

3. Wiill try that shortly.

2. Will try that if Clear Flash doesn't work.

Thanks for your input and I will get back on this !

I listed things to try in a certain order for a reason. If you elect to change the order, or not try all suggestions, then I'm sorry, but I can't help you!!

Okay, don't want to be stubborn or unwilling, so will go through each item consecutively.

1. Did you format the device already ?
When you've search the Internet via Google you may have seen many with the same problems ?
Don't put all your money on one horse and search for it.
One solved this problem with formatting the device and let do TomTom Home the updates
This stopped after a reset with the remark No card found.
Then I think it's time to follow these steps mentioned by tendriver
There is a tool for formatting SD cards which must be usefull for internal memory too, take it from here

2. Clearflash and more from here

3.

4. Even a tool, to remove your register settings

Goodluck,

Aad - pe1agp

1. The TT Team NEVER recommends formatting a SD card or internal memory, except in the most severe cases. This is not one of them.
2. DOWNLOAD TOMTOM CLEAR FLASH TOOL HERE This is an in-house link to Clear Flash. No rapidshare!!
3. This is just a PASSWORD eraser. No help.
4. This is not a TomTom registry issue.

This issue does not indicate that a sector is in need of a repair.
