Thinking of getting a newer GPS

Thinking of getting a newer GPS

Postby Kentish-man » Thu Nov 24, 2011 6:01 pm

For some years now I have been using my trusty Navigo SY885 and periodicaly feeding it with TomTom maps from this site. I am now thinking of getting a newer, secondhand, real TomTom from ebay. Would I still be able to feed it maps from this forum and if so, what models would be suitable? I am assuming they would need to be loaded via an SD card or is this not the case? I would prefer a model that can show lane guidance.
Thanks

1a. Would I still be able to feed it maps from this forum and if so,
b. what models would be suitable?
2. I am assuming they would need to be loaded via an SD card or is this not the case?
3. I would prefer a model that can show lane guidance.

1a. Yes.
b. Look for the cheapest model you can find that has:
1. at least a 4.3" screen
2. at least 64 MB RAM memory
3. at least a 2GB internal memory
4. a SD card slot
2. Not necessarily
3. This is a map feature, not a device feature.

Stay away from any of the newer models that use MyTomTom instead of TT Home.

The link in that old post, no longer goes anywhere, so, would you guys mind if I re-phrase the question?
OK, I still have the SY885 and it still works but family comitments prevented me from making any purchases when I first made the post. Is there a chart or table somewhere in the forum that shows which TomToms can be updated with maps from here?
Thanks

1. Post 3 above is still valid.
2. A chart/table is not necessary. ANY unit that uses TomTom Home can be updated with maps from here.

Stay away from these: Important note for new Tomtom models like VIA, Start20/25, Go1xxx - please read!
