1. Does your PC recognize your other devices? If so, do you use the same cable for both devices? Have you tried another PC?
2. A 30 second hard reset?
3. Forget trying this.

a) it could be a problem on your PC, so do a quick check on a different PC/laptop. Just check if the TT appears as a drive letter.
b) it could be a faulty connector on the TT
Since the USB thing is used for charging and data transfer over time it can happen that either the contacts or the solder points break.
If worse comes to worse you have two options (assuming the device still charges:
1: use a card reader and do all an the device with a SD card
2: if a) has the same problem - take the TT apart, check the USB connector and if necessary re-solder or replace

No problem with the pc.

Usb on satnav seems fine.

Nothing showing in device manager, its just not being recognized but no problem charging.

As soon as i unplug it from the computer it starts reading the sd card. It even asks me do i want to connect to the computer, i say ye. then it restarts and stays on the green screen that appears before it reads the sd card.

I can get around it to update it, its just annoying.

Have you tried the TT clear flash tool a few times?
Do a hard reset in between, three should be enough to make sure it is no problem with left overs in the permanent memory.
If the USB on the GPS would be fine it show up on the PC, and you still have not checked it on a different PC...

I will try a different pc later, but cannot access the tom tom to run the clear flash tool. Wont show up on pc at all. I thought of that but because i cannot read anything on the tom tom as if it wasnt plugged in its got me stumped. I appreciate all your suggestions though as sometimes its the simple thing we forget to try.

1. We await your results.
2. Put TT Clear Flash Tool on your card.

Thanx for the update. It appears that we have eliminated it being a PC issue. You stated, "Yes pc recognizes other devices with the same cable. Trying a different cable will eliminate that being an issue, & leave us with a device issue.

Yes tried a stand alone cable and the dock mount on both machines.

Device issue which can probably be rectified if only the pc could see the tom tom.

As i said, i have updated maps on sd card and patched it so all working, any thing else can be added as i go along.

Would have been nice to find out the problem for future problems of the same nature but, time for a beer i think and forget it.

That is like saying, "I could walk from Dover to Calais, if the Channel wasn't full of water.

Or climb Everest on a pogo stick if it wasn't so steep.
