1. Turn the TT off
2. Press and hold the Reset button for 30+ sec.
3. Connect to PC
4. Turn on the TT
It now should connect directly show up on the PC.
If not you might have to fully charge it first.
To me it seems strange that it does no not show up properly.
What do you mean by "hen i connect to pc dosn't show on my pc but it shows on my
printers and device menu" - you should use the Windows Explorer for the access and make sure you AntiVirus soft is not blocking access because of the autorun.inf

Before you worry about your anti-virus, did the 30 sec reset take care of you green screen boot issue?
Mon Dec 26, 2011 2:55 pm
no the 30 sec reset never worked nor did the anti virus
as we speak the tomtom is showing in my printer and device menu but not on my computer menu
as soon as i connect to pc my pc stops responding

In that case I strongly recomend trying the connection on a different PC to make sure the TT is the problem and not the configuration of your PC.
A TT for your PC is not more than a card reader and will always show up in the Explorer.
If that is not the case either your PC is the problem or your TT is really faulty.
Does the TT turn on normally when not connected?
Have you tried to install a Navcore on a SD card to check ?

the tom tom will not start without sd card but will with sd card pc is config ok as i tried it on my notebook
so i think internal memory is done for.
i can update the maps and anything else through my card reader just can't calibrate the screen as it's all over the place these are the cal numbers don't seem wright to me 86 920 152 847 have created cal.txt file put in main rooton sd card but no joy
i seem to think internal memory is conflicting with the card reader on the tom tom when connecting to pc
i will keep trying i won't let it beat me thanks for all your help folks

Hum, now you have introduced a whole new problem. This is the first mention of a calibration issue. If the internal is out of calibration, putting a cal.txt file on the sd card will not help.

i know as i have tried but its just frustrating i can't access internal to fix it
just seems funny to me that my pc says your device has installed properly and ready to use
but it only shows in device manager with no conflict's but not in my computer asks me to format
before i can use it but when i do it says insert disk into drive letter k then it says can't format disk
not accessible i'll keep going

Please try to put the provided bootloader onto your SD card.
I assume you already got a Navcore on the SD card.
The bootloader is the file "system" in the root of your TT/SD and it might be corrupted. If not your internal memory is definately damaged.
If the new bootloader is installing from the SD at the next boot you will see a warning screen for a short moment until the device reboots.
In case the inernal memory is beyond repair this step will fail and the TT hangs on that warning screen or even earlier.

For the calibration:
If you have no chance to get it calibrated you might want to thing about replacing the digitiser for the screen.
They are only a few bucks on Ebay and will work with the original calibration of the device, so no need for a cal.txt
IMHO if a touchscreen starts to fail a new calibration will not last forever. Sooner or later the touchscreen can fail completely. So not really worth getting frustrated with calibrating if a new digitiser is under 15$
