tomtom go 710

Fri Nov 09, 2012 3:18 pm

My friend has asked me if I can put truck on his tomtom go 710, is it possible? I put truck maps v895 on with truck navcore v8.398 on a 8gb sdhc card but nothing happens. the screen without the card is telling me to put a sd card in, then it has a cross thru the card, implying it is wrong.

1. I put truck maps v895 on with truck navcore v8.398 on a 8gb sdhc card but nothing happens.
2. the screen without the card is telling me to put a sd card in, then it has a cross thru the card, implying it is wrong.

1. Does the 710 have bootloader 5.5015 or higher, so it can see a SDHC card?? Did you patch the map with the 710's ttgo.bif file?
2. A 710 doesn't have any internal memory. It is external card only.

when I turn the unit on (without sd card) there is just a screen with a picture telling me to insert sd card.

How did you determine the bootloader to be 5.5120?

No, that is the bootloader for 8.398. Did the 710 have a card in it when you got it?

no there was no card in it

If you can connect the 710 to your computer, run TomTom Current Configuration {29.09.2011} & post the results here.

If not, do a reset, then hold down the start button until you get the black & white specs page. The bootloader version is listed on it.

You can upgrade your bootloader to 5.5229 or 5.5242 to be able see SDHC cards.

Bootloader version 5.015 or higher is required to use SDHC cards.

The easiest way for you to do this is to copy/paste/overwrite the "system" file (extracted from the attached 5.5120 system file.rar) or from any of these downloaded dumps to your current standard SD card or internal memory and boot up once with that new system file THEN it will read your new SDHC card.

-1- extract the content system to your original card overwriting original system
-2- with a fully charged battery put card in device and boot , you see a screen , telling you to wait
-2 now you can use SDHC cards

the bootloader is 4.86. I do not have a lead to connect to the computer, I used the press and hold start.

OK. You MUST upgrade the bootloader before you can use a SDHC card. Load a 2GB card with navcore 8.398, any map small enuf to fit the card & the 710's ttgo.bif file. Patch the map. Put the card in the 710 & boot it. That will up the bootloader to 5.5120. Now the device will see your 8GB card.

Hi there, I did that I got as far as putting the map and navcore onto a 2 gig card and all seem to go well, I patched the map and put it back into the 710, switched it on and no display, I connected to the charger and even tried another charger and still no display, there is a green light showing, so there is power getting to the unit. is this 710 now bin material?

No display as in "black screen"? Where did you get a copy of the 710's ttgo.bif file, which is required to patch the map?
