2. You are 1/2 right. Auto day/night functions based on time, not the sensor.
3. I guess the "signal-strength" indicator is cute to look at, but it serves no useful purpose while navigating. The navigation page is it own signal indicator. Navigation page grayed out = No Signal. Navigation page in day or night colors = Good signal. That's all you need to know, while navigating. If the signal is weak, what can you do about it, motoring along the M1? Nothing!!

Switching from self-mode on this navcore on my GO720 confirms this, as nothing happens anymore when the receiver is plugged in.
But as always this might be based on misunderstanding / misinterpretation, correct me, if wrong.

I 'll be open to any arguments to base my navcore choice on for this device. Thanks so far!
I will also be using both 8.398 and 9.430SE at least for a month each, to see if any other points may come up on wich my final desicion will be based.

1. Downunder's comment in post 14 is valid for DSA 9.430, which I don't use for several reasons.
3. My points are not a matter of opinion, they are a matter of fact, except "indicator is cute to look at". I will agree, that a matter of taste is a valid consideration.
4. My points are based on SE 9.430 with X50 emu. The new menu icons, better menu layout, auto day/night, Voice Command & Control, unlimited map choices, etc.
5. Based on your posts, you have tried DSA 9.430. Have you actually tried SE 9.430?

1 & 5. Indeed, it was the DSA 9.430, the term "self-mode" speaks for itselfs. (+ of course, skin chooser) my fault.
But, the results are the same as with the SE 9.430, so only TMC in "original" mode. I tried the "fixtmc" in the setconfig.txt, but the results didn't change; nothing happens when connecting the TMC-receiver. Tried both X40 and X50 emulation.

4. The automatic brightnesschange based on time will be, generally considerd, an improvement when used on a device without lightsensor. In this case functionality gets lost. I like the fact that the brightness is changed, gradually, based on real light measurements. Like when driving trough tunnels, using the device indoors, etc.
When it wouldnt be possible to use a current map, the choice would be easy. Then things like a light sensor are a minor issue.


Today I took the GO720 for the first real-world-use out. +/-200KM total of different trips during the day.
Performed very well!
Lot's of fun shouting at Saskia, when she didn't understand the cities/streetnames :D :D
Although, the v2 TMC receiver has a bad reputation, I had a green dot on the screen, al day long and can only say it functioned good.
Battery is weak, I might replace it. My tt ONE from 2005 is still using the original battery and can be used for about 30-40 minutes, this one dies within 5 minutes!

I will be testing different navcores on this device and will report back wich one stays on it.

So I take it that you haven't utilized point 5 in post 2.

Yes I did.
But if you read Downunders post, point 2:

"2. NC 9.4xx does not find a signal to update the traffc info but shows the traffic bar on the screen"

So this fix doesn't apply.
