Plug it into your PC and let TomTom Home update the navcore to 9.510 for you

After that you can look into what Europe map is going to suit your needs before you start downloading

no i have got england map 960.756 onto the sd card via a card reader .
2)then copied the ttgo.bif and ttsystem from the old backup to the root of the sd card ,
how do i make my card as the default to be used as the new version of the map as the internal storage still has the old version of maps

Easy, switch map from the options menu. Your TT will always start with the last active map.
Of course you can delete the old map afterwards.

i did downlaod the uk map 960.7065 from a link here ,
i did copy this in the root folder of the sd card root ,
2)copied the ttgo.bif file to the sd card from my tomtom after i updated it with the tthome .
3)run the fastactivate and step 1,2 and 3 but the map is still showing in the ttgo.bif file as the old map
4)when i try to switch map from the menu ,it only shows western europe map (old version )which is on the internal hard drive of tomtom ,
what am i doing wrong ,do i have to put the ttsystem file on the blank sd card or ???

Two things:
- I assume you now have a folder in the root of your sd-card containing your new map?
- use the device's option menu and look for the change maps option. Switch maps and you're done.
You have to instruct your device which map to load. It does not have a clue on its own.

the maps are working .
there is no drum voice when i start the tomtom ,it starts with picture instead .
i dont seem to have any voices ,they seem to be in the folder on the sd card but when i click on them and test no sound can be heard .
3)when i connect my sd card via reader to the tthome it shows the voices to be on the sd card ,but why i cant hear them .
i have also parched them with fastactivator but still no luck.

i have got the old maps on the internal drive which have got voices on ,the problem is with the sd card which has 2 maps
uk and ireland and western europe which dont have any voices /spounds
any comments what am i doing wron g

The drum sound is a reset sound, no problem if you don't hear it when switching on.
On the sd you don't need anything but the map folder (and a copy of ttgo.bif for patching).

Your GO 720 starts from the navcore on internal memory and uses the voices located in the voices folder.
You are stating that the old map has got sound (of voices) and your new one hasn't?
That's weird. Check your settings in new map.
You can also reinstall voices from TTH. It may be necessary to delete existing ones first.

when installing voices i gave the default drive as my sd card ,now i think i need to delete the voices on the sd card and install them to internal memorry from tth.
all the tts voices downloaded from this forum go in the root of the internal memorry as the other voices from tth.
do i have to put them in the voices folder in the internal memory root .
2 i have put the camera files within the map folder .
where do you put the post codes ,i have put the zip file in the root of sd card is that right

On the 720 you can have voices on Internal and SD card and choise them make no different where the stand.
Have you done a reset Minimum 15 sec.

The 720 read from internal and external(SD). This can be a little confusing
so the best way is to have everything on the internal memory of the 720.
If there is not enough place for maps on the internal then use a SD card for extra maps.

Reset your device.
Use a straightened paper clip, or something similar, to push the reset button for at least 20 seconds.

Turn your device on.
Press the On/off button for at least 5 seconds.

15 seconds for a "soft" reset & 30 seconds fora "hard" reset.
