Tomtom Go 730 + TMC

Tomtom Go 730 + TMC

Postby dkn9230 » Tue Apr 04, 2017 6:07 pm

Since a week I bought a (2nd hand) Go 730, together with a TMC antenna 4V00.014
(a small black block of 4 by 2 cm with a black cable of 15 cm and a mini USB connection;
you connect into the power supply of the GO (on the bottom) and a 1meter long antenna.
The small black box is powered (on his turn) by a mini USB)
The installed navcore is 9.540.1497205.2, OS 1493118
and the map Western Europe V985.8155 on a 8GB Sandisk Extreme through Fastactivate
The boot version is 5.5120 and GPS version is 1.20
When I attached the TMC receiver (connection on the bottom of the Go730
where the power supply is plugged in) and plugged in the power supply into the TMC receiver
I had the Go 730 which detected the TMC receiver and mentionned:
TMC receiver connected.
After a while (max 2 minutes) I had a green dot on top of the screen where the traffic is showed,
meaning that the TMC module and traffic info is OK and receiving data.
Now, I have installed the receiver in my car (beside the A-style of the windscreen).
When I'm driving now (or even when standing still) there is a green arrow which turn
around and around but no green dot anymore.
But when I was in the Netherlands, the green dot was there again. When going across the border
and entering Belgium again the green dot became partial en finally lost signal again.
I wonder if there is a special setting I have to do or to modify,
because it worked 100% the first time (and the first time only) in Belgium (in the house,
not even outside)
The Go is connected throug a Brodit "pass trough" power system,
but I don't think that will be the problem because it works in the Netherlands ....
but not in Belgium (except the very first time). :022:
The same story is applicable for my Go930T and my second Go 730
(all the same specs) and only the first time the TMC receiver is connected ... it works
After the first time ... no strong signal anymore and a receiver who is always "searching"
Can somebody give some explanation or any action I have to do (to have it working in Belgium)

It sounds like it is working properly but you need to check [Please Register or Login to download file] first

Page checked and for me all is OK,
except where you have to define your country (BE)
Is this in a file or is it not needed with this TMC receiver.
I didn't find how to do it!
Somebody ???

Is there something like RDS traffic and HD Traffic (f.e on a Go 930 HD Traffic) ?
Difference ?
Possible to activate via software ?

I think that only works in the Netherlands is using radio signals through the air.
Ik denk dat het alleen in Nederland werkt gaat via radio signalen door de lucht.

I think that in the Netherlands the signal is stronger than in Belgium.
Belgium broadcast TMC signals through Radio 2 and the Sony
(Build in GPS in my Ford) is receiving them, so they are there but ....
So in fact it must be something with the OS or the receiver,
but no worries anymore ; the Go 730 has been "switched"
for a Go 5200 (which I already had 3 weeks ago, but I returned it to the shop
when I heard that lifetime by tomtom is only 5 years and that for 299 euro !).
Now I had the occasion of buying a brand new one, in a sealed box,
for 150 euro or 149 euro cheaper (50%) than my previous one :023:
For that price lifetime may be "only" 5 years.

LTM maps or traffic is certainly not only five years!

TomTom defines Lifetime as as long as TT produces supporting software or maps for the designated LTM devices.

I don't know but from what I received from Tomtom (official website) they garantee the support for the Go5200 for ONLY 4, 5 or 6 years.
Once they stop the updates (developpement of the software, etc) for the Go 5200, Lifetime updates stops also.
I guess they calculate the use of memory, knowing that a map grows approx 300Mb a year,
without the use of internal memory for the OS.
Buth the Go5200 has 16Gb and ....... it's still to be considered as "end of lifetime" after 4, 5 or 6 years (they don't mention a longer period)
I have the same with my Rider V5 which shows on every update that the support stops in 2025 (after 10 years).
So the duration of lifetime depends clearely on the type of GPS.

@dkn9230

It is how you want to interpreted it.
Nobody talks about a longer time. You refer to the TomTom website. Then you also should have read

WHAT DOES “LIFETIME” MEAN?

Lifetime is the useful life of the device, which means the period of time that TomTom continues
to support your device with software updates, services, content or accessories.
A device will have reached the end of its life when none of these are available anymore.
this is very interesting because theoretically, it means that after let's say 3 years if they are
no longer available then the lifetime is stopped. TomTom has everything in his own hand
(maps, traffic etc.).
I can,t find terms of 5 or 10 years on the TomTom site. But if it is there show me where I can find it.

:023:
I don,t see a reason way a thumpdown.

Of course the info by the member was correct,
the tumb down was for tomtom who reduces lifetime to 4,5,6 or 10 years (which is probably not the lifetime of the GPS)

There is a message about the lifetime on facebook - tomtom where I openly asked the question
and was getting the answer mentionned above.
For the rider I took a copy of the picture but I'm not able to post it here.
But ... If you ask the question directly to tomtom, I'm sure you will get the answer I got.

Yes, of course the website says it all to some, but for me the webside says nothing !
They don't specify that lifetime means 4, 5 or 6 years for a go5200
and 10 years for a Rider V5 unless you ask them a direct question.
And I think I'm right due to the answers I personally got from tomtom (where they specify lifetime to the above periods)
and the picture (which I can not post here - not possible to add them) I have copied from my Rider.
But only the future will proof how long Tomtom will support these (free) devices.
Doubt is on their side.
