Hey Downunder35m,

I wouldn't mind knowing what other solutions you were thinking of?

Cheers mate! :drinks:

It depends on what you are after, for Raster maps there is OziExplorer and Global Mapper for example - both can handle 3D map data.
For normal navigation it is still possible to find a copy of Garmin mobile PC - it uses the normal XT maps and works with any GPS connected, mouse or Garmin device.
If worse comes to worse Franson GPS Gate can generate a copy of the GPS data stream and provide a com port on the computer.
For the more professional use apart from Global Mapper you can get specialised programs for geocaching and land development.

I understand that the choice is not really big s there is not much to choose from, but IMHO for simpe navigation needs it is easier to use a normal hand held GPS than a laptop.
In these modern times you can even use an Androis pad and run IGO, Google maps or whatever you want on it - and a good pad easily replaces a laptop for normal use ;)

Hope the little info was at least a bit helpful.

Thanks for the trouble you have gone to.

I must admit, I was thinking more in terms of testing TomTom maps at my desk, rather than for using a laptop for realtime navigation.

I've used Garmin (and have a couple of mates who are grateful that I have some skills there - 'nuff said!) but, although I think Garmin's Junction View is excellent, for flexibility, pre-planning and all-round ease of use I can't go past TomTom.

Similarly with all the other majors players, having tried just about all of them I'm still a TomTom fan.

Until Holux came up with their superb little M-1200E that does data logging as well as realtime GPS positioning via Bluetooth, I was using Franson GPS Gate on a PDA to record tracks.

Thanks again for your reply - I think we're on a similar wavelength.

For an Asus EeePc T101MT with touch screen. I use in it Garmin Mobile PC and iGO8. I would like to try TomTom, if it is possible.

Thank you.

Greetings

This is a wince application running under emulation, and is tricky to get working.

OK. If it only works under emulation, then I forget it.

Thanks for your response.

If you want to try it for new maps I suggest to do so on your TT.
It is only an emulated TT with very limited map support, like the PDA versions, so I don't really see the point in using it to test for new maps.

Thanks for your reply. I use the emulator for about 5 years, but with 320x240 resolution.
This emulator has doubled the resolution.
It is extremely usefull to test maps directly after downloading on your PC.
Thankfully I could download the emulator from another site.
