TomTom XL - Australia map assistance please

Postby papinu » Thu Oct 07, 2010 8:27 am

Thanks mate. Just confirming which one as there was a later number than the one you said. I'll get the one you suggested, 855.2884. I know nothing about this stuff, so if I don't know it's best to ask :)
I'll probably have a stab at this on the weekend, so I'll let you know how I go. Thanks all for your comments, help & suggestions.
Fingers crossed that the new version that I download will work and I'll get satellite signal!!!

Ok I've put 855.2884 on. It allowed me to select the map. The Fastactivate was simple to use which was welcomed!
Unfortunately it's still not finding GPS reception though. I click on the bars in bottom right, then the bars on right and nothing appears. Just says Poor GPS reception - are you in a building.
Anything else I can do?

Connect to Home and download the Quick fix updates, after that go outside and wait a few minutes - the device should get a fix even if it take a while.
If still no luck you might have a hardware problem.

There's no quickfix updates in Home. It worked overseas with UK map.. so how can it be rooted?
Is it all over for me and this GPS unit?

If not already done try a hard reset (hold reset for 30sec.) and after that run the TT clear flash tool three times.
Try again to get a lock on the satellites without an update from Home it can take quite a long time but after about 5min you should at least see that one or two satellites are in range.
From there it should only take a few mintutes more.

Attached is the latest QuickGPSfix, that I received last night. Unzip it and copy the entire ephem folder into the root of your XL, AFTER you have removed the old ephem folder.

If this doesn't help, there is Plan B.

Run TT Home "Update my device". Since you have yesterdays quickgpsfix, see if you are offered todays update.

Ok, let's start from scratch :
Was the GPS part working with the original system on it (before you updated) ?
If so please put your backup on the device to confirm the GPS is working with that Navcore but not with your currently installed Navcore.
I know that most XL models are a bit fuzzy when it comes to new Navcores but I never heard of one loosing the GPS functions after an update.

Ok I restored back to original (with UK maps) and it picks up the satellites.
So now back to square one.. are the steps below right ?
1. Upgrade Navcore
2. Copy map over and run fastactivate.

cheers

8.412 is OK. Go here: TomTom Automatic Navcore Installation Read the instructions carefully. Choose 8.412.

Do not remove the current navcore. Let the installer overwrite.
