TomTom on Binatone B430 - Newbie help required

Sun Jun 26, 2011 8:48 am

Hi there,

Apologies for starting a new thread on this, I see there are a few similar but I'm still a bit stuck.

I've downloaded TomTom 7.45 from this site, and in the instructions page here http://www.navitotal.com/forums/showthread.php?3016-How-to-install-Tomtom-7-on-dedicated-PNA-devices-with-Windows-CE-core-5-6
it asks to run the exe. file from my storage card to generate .bif files?

When I click on this it says it isn't a valid win32 application.
I'm sure I'm doing something daft wrong, can anyone help me with this?

I've also downloaded UK maps 870.3417 but can't seem to find
an up to date link for AutoActivate to activate those.
Again apologies if I'm being a bit thick

Thanks in advance
Matt

AutoActivate http://www.navitotal.com/forums/showthread.php?6032-AutoActivate-29.05.2011-1.8.7.0&p=43420#post43420

Run the exe on your device, Not on your PC.

Thanks for that, ok I was being thick!
I've run that and it has generated a .bif file.

I've copied Auto Activate and maps on to the sd card on my card reader and run AutoActivate from the sd card which seemed to work fine.

When I try to run TomTom again on the device it says something like activation error - in French -
and takes me to a screen with Voucher in the bottom left corner.

Again apologies if I'm being a bit slow again

It sounds like your map is not patched properly, Confirm you have a *.meta.dct file within your map folder.

You must use a card reader for the activation process or it will fail and some members have problems with activating on Win7 64bit.

Inside the UK and Republic etc map folder on the sd card there are 10 .dat files, a meta file 191kb in size - doesn't say meta.dct though, and a 1kb Pna file, both of those last 2 files have icons that suggest windows doesn't know what to do to them?

On my Sd card I have explorer.exe, ttnavigator.bif, AutoActivate Folder, UK maps folder, Navigator folder and a meta.txt file.

I ran the exe. file via explorer on my satnav which took me straight to a message in French,
which I think said 'no maps found', and it generated the ttnavigator.bif file.

I then extracted the AutoActivate and map folders onto the sd card, in seperate folders to the Navigator folder, not into the Navigator folder, and ran the AutoActivate from the sd card.
Everything seemed to work, I didn't get any error messages. I used a card reader for all the operations above.
Should I have put AA into the Maps folder?

Hope that makes some sense, and thanks again for your help.

Put AutoActivate.exe in the root of the card

\*:\AutoActivate.exe
\*:\Navigator\Tomtom Navigator.exe ...
\*:\{Map folder}\Cline.dat ...
\*:\TTNavigator.bif

You're a genius! The software seems to be running fine.
Apart from the signal that is...
I've googled to find the Baud rate and com port for this model, and there seems to be a difference of opinion
on different forums, what do you use on yours?

Many thanks again, Matt

I have this device myself the settings are...

Other NMEA Receiver
Baud 57600
COM:7

Tomtom will crash on first lock but will run fine afterwards..

Great, I'll give that a go now, how long does it usually take to pick up a signal?

Sun Jun 26, 2011 1:27 pm

This device has cached gps data so it may take a while, upto 30 mins the first time, subsequent times are quicker though, i find sometimes movement helps.

Great, it picked up a signal no bother, and the software looks great.

The software didn't seem to crash either as far as I can tell, so I've
either got lucky or done something wrong

I've changed the folder to MobileNavigator, and the exe to MobileNavigator.exe
as suggested, and it starts automatically when I click navigation on the Binatone.

The only thing that doesn't seem quite right, is when I put in a postcode
as a destination, it doesn't seem to recognise anything beyond the first
part of it - eg G33 is ok, and then I have to scroll to find the address I'm
looking for, but G33 5EW won't find the correct address automatically?
Is there anything I can do to fix this?

Many thanks again,
Matt

Yes look on this forum in the map thread for latest postcodes, download, extract and place the great britain files (2) in a folder called "Zip" on the root of the card alongside the map folder.

Worked perfectly, thanks again for all your help.
You have been very patient, sorry for all the daft questions,
it's just a bit overwhelming when you haven't a clue what you're doing :)

I've made a donation to the site as a thank you for all your help.

all the best, Matt
