TomTom Go Live 1535M - Can you use TMC also

Fri Dec 07, 2012 2:30 am

Hi Folks,
I'm thinking of treating myself to the above for Christmas. I'd be buying it in Canada and using it mostly here too however, I will also be using it in the USA.
The HD traffic won't work in the USA and so I wondered if I could get a TMC cable and it could get the regular traffic updates from that, rather than HD.

Anyone ever tried this?

Thanks!

A GO Live 1535M is 1 of the new models that can't be modified, Important note for new Tomtom models like VIA, Start20/25, Go1xxx - please read!. We are not doing anything (research and/or support) with them at this time. I suggest you contact TT Support for an answer.

Thanks.

Other forums suggest with a micro usb TMC charger, this can be achieved however I've contacted TT support to confirm.

I'll paste the response here in due course for the benefit of others.

Folks,
Confirmed from TT Support that the Go Live 1535M does also support TMC traffic with the appropriate charging adapter (not included).

So, if you buy in one country (e.g. Canada) you'll get traffic HD and if you want to use in another country (e.g. USA) you'll need the TMC adapter and will then only get the regular TMC updates every ~15 mins.

Thanx for the update.

May I suggest that you not buy a charger antenna until your first trip to the US. Take it with you unopened.
Confirm that your 1535M is or isn't picking up US live updates before you open & use the charger antenna.

Looks like it should work...

For what it's worth, this is straight from the manual:

About traffic information
You can receive traffic information in two ways:
 TomTom HD Traffic
 Traffic Message Channel (RDS-TMC)

I need to wait to I actually try it though to confirm :)
