TomTom One 3rd and RDS-TMC Subscription Expiration

Postby xtsfllxr » Thu Sep 26, 2013 11:35 pm

Hi,

I purchased an RDS-TMC antenna for my TomTom One 3rd from eBay about a year ago for about $25 and it worked well enough for the price. It only gives traffic on major routes, but I suppose it is better than nothing.

Now the unit is saying that the subscription has expired and wants me to renew for $60. Considering how limited the traffic data is, I would probably stick with no traffic data if it were even a $10 subscription fee.

Is there any way I can force the unit to receive the RDS-TMC signal without paying more than double what this thing is probably worth?

Never hear of RDS costing money as it is free radio service.
I use TT RDS receivers for many years and never got any exiration notices.

I'm located in Canada if that makes a difference.

The fact that it is a free FM radio service is exactly why I don't want to pay for it.
