Nice clear skies today, cleared all gpsfix's and downloaded latest. Just got the one indication but nothing blue!

At the stage were I am preparing to chuck the damn thing in the bin, tomtom are not helpful at all!

Since you tried a fresh install, got all the latest data and tried it many times I suspect a hardware fault.
Sat fix works best if the time on the device is set correctly but the first fix can and often will still take a few minutes.
Not 100% sure if your device has a connector for an external GPS antenna (or maybe on the dock) but if so you could ask in a shop nicely if they let you test one to confirm if your internal antenna is damaged or if the hardware itself is renered useless.
Only thing that surprises me is that you state you can get one bar to show up.

Surprises me too.

My brother is an aircraft tech and a mate navigational instrument tech, both have given it the once over and say, the unit works, gps works in as much power in - power out, no dry joints or anything adverse.

They too are confused that I can get up to two sats showing and that is it. Both blame the unit in having directed me to Norfolk, around Norfolk and back via Essex and the M25!

So I ran your Get My Config and results:

Right then, my brother being my brother... Together we removed the application from the unit and computer and re-installed as per tomtom instructions, doing a re-set after each upgrade.

Then we installed SE_Navcore.9.051.503855_32mb_devices. As it is chucking it down with rain, it is back on the window sill and picked up one sat straight away.

One? So you still can't get a complete fix?
Or is all working now as expected?

Sat Jul 07, 2012 7:41 am

Not working as it should, only one sat - pathetic!

Within the device....

I'll do it again!

I have also upgraded the NC to last known fully working - SE_Navcore.9.205.547817_32mb_devices - download from this site.

Sat Jul 14, 2012 4:37 pm

Sorry for the delay, as I have become sick and tired of the whole subject.

I can only get one satellite on my one xl, so depressing!

Fri Jul 20, 2012 7:20 pm

Well first of all, give yourself a medal for sheer endurance!!!

AS someone who has had their share of good and bad experiences with getting a GPS signal, can I offer the following?

All the above things contribute to getting a good signal but I too have done all those things and not got a signal. I would suggest trying a few different Navcores on your XL, going through all the usual procedures with getting a Quickfix download from tt home.

Do you know how to clear the cache memory of Quickfix on your PC? That gets you the latest offering from tomtom and normally works. Also things you take for granted as being ok sometimes aren't. For example, the Navcore you have could be defective of corrupted. Get a fresh download and try again. Good luck - keep trying!

Only once, when I couldn't get any GPS satellite activity did it turn out to be a hardware problem so my guess it is software related somehow.

And check out Downunder's Quickfix file downloads for installing direct on your tomtom.

Fri Jul 20, 2012 8:40 pm

Fairytooth I appreciate the help.

I have used all of Downunder's software and used the Quickfix - nil return. BUT.....

Today I was mucking around with it and got a FIX, yes I got a FIX! BUT, always a but, no voice, took it for a drive navigated well but with no voice.

Connected to laptop, looked at the files and voice and loq where present. Deleted them, then no fix. Put them back in, NO FIX! So I thought bu$$er!

Tomorrow I will delete everything on tomtom one xl drive apart from the map and re-install the last known software that worked - 9.2.

Patience is a virtue!

Sat Jul 21, 2012 11:20 am

Guess what, no change. Still no fix after 2 hours!

Sun Jul 22, 2012 1:33 am

I guess we can assume now that you are either in an area with not GPS satellites or that your unit is faulty.
Pick whatever you think is more likely ;)
I don't think I got the right files for your chipset but check this:
4500
If you have similar files in your Ephem folder, replace them with the ones in the archive and check again for a fix.

Sun Jul 22, 2012 2:13 pm

I'll give it a go, nothing to lose...

Having trouble activating the map. Not patched do'oh.

Mon Jul 23, 2012 1:45 pm

I now have that old chesnut again of no maps found.

Even activated etc, etc like the earlier post. You could say I am beginning to give up on this!
