TomTom One XL Not picking up satellites

TomTom One XL Not picking up satellites

Postby da.bish » Thu Jun 28, 2012 6:41 pm

My sat nav was working fine until end of March and I needed to use it last week. I did all the updates via tomtom home and since then I cannot connect to any satellites.

I keep getting awaiting valid gps, or words similar.

It did connect the other day, for about 5 minutes and since then nothing. I occasionally get one or two grey indications but that is all.

I have tried so many different options but to no avail, so I have come to this site to see if anyone has a solution?

I have read about a leap year bug, but it does not affect the One XL.

Help please!

I assume your GPS is data is either not complete or corrupted.
Overwrite the content of the folder "ephem" with content form a backup, after that check the updates through Home and you should get the latest QuickFix data installed.

I get the lastest Quickfix data, even done a restored from a back up and still no difference. Last night I got three grey indications. That was standing in the local park with the nearest tree about 200 yds away in open sky, before my unit starting flashing battery, after about 45 mins.

I have even tried reloading the navcore from here, all to no avail.

It's not a problem of the NC, only the files inside the Ephem folder are responsible for the reception(unless you have a hardware fault).
Grey indicators show that the GPS is working but has not enough info to get an accurate fix on your current location.
If the QuickFix data was update through Home the initial fix should not take more than 3 minutes on a good day.
In case your backup gave you the grey indicators only I suggest to try the update again - TT updates the data on a regular basis.

Hi Mate, done all that and I only receive only one or two grey signal indications and it has been outside for 45 minutes.

It is not a hardware fault as it is showing something...

I refuse to be beaten by a sat nav!

You can try an external antenna (if you have one and the connector on the device) to rule out other hardware but 45min it too long.
Have you tried what happens with the original NC as I assume you use something more modern?

Slow/No lock-on after a NC change is a known issue. Sometinmes it takes 3, 4 or 5 boots to get a lock-on.

I was running NC 9.2 or something around that and I have now (last week) reverted back to 8.412.1236 using the NC from this site.

Now, I have re-booted about fifty times since yesterday and now I am picking up between 0 and 1 greyed out connection.

I have found my old Tomtom XL, which only has a cracked screen, no battery, so I am going to connect that and copy the HD and install it into my One XL and let's see what happens. Quite an old map, but should be easy enough to upgrade.

I'll advise outcome unless someone has a further option for me.

Well that didn't work, so at it's last working state I had Navcore 9.205.547817 installed. Going back to that.

I expect the unit to say cannot use map which it can!

I continue to be disappointed.

The message, that you are getting, indicates that you have a patching issue, usually the map didn't get patched.

Map was patched! Worked fine until tomtom home decided to upgrade the application. I'll re-patch tomorrow and see what happens.

I use Easy Tools, or is there another which would do the job? Either way, pain in the rear end trying to get a valid gps!

1. Your new navcore needs patching.
2. What navcore did TT Home upgrade you to?

I 'lost' the map when tomtom home changed the application version to 8.010.

Would Easy Tools patch the new navcore?
