TomTom One XL Problems after map upgrade.

Wed Jun 05, 2013 11:25 am

Hello All,

I don't usually upgrade maps all the time the reason is simple, if it's working don't touch it. But my maps were kind of old and I thought that was time to put newer maps. I done this in the past and never had any major problems. I put 910_4892 maps on my TT One XL (64Mb). After I did that I ran the latest fastActivate 2.6.2013.0, update and patch everything. I thought that was all I need it to do, once I turn on the device, I hear the famous drums but I can't get past the splash screen. What I am doing wrong ?

Best,

Coroiba.

Map folder query on a ONE XL

Wed Jun 05, 2013 9:57 pm

I have a One XL v1 (32mb RAM version with 1gb internal storage and SD card slot). The unit recently had all files on its internal memory but I have copied all files over to a 2gb SD card.

I have installed the latest version of TT HOME and let it update the navcore to v8.010 (9369/080529 - btw -what do the numbers mean?!). I have also manually updated the bootloader to v5.5242. The unit currently has the prehistoric Western_Europe_1GB v715.1689 which I'm wanting to update to a mapset which is compatible with the 8.010 Navcore. I have downloaded Western_Europe_1GB(910.4952) mapset and want to install and activate it using Fast Activate.

However, before I do that, I would be grateful for some clarity on map folders. I have a folder on the SD card called 'Western_Europe_1GB' with all map, speedcam, POI data files etc in. BUT, I also have a folder called 'maps' which has a single file in it called "Western_Europe_1GB.tlv". Standard procedure is, prior to attempting to transfer the new map folder and files and attempting any activation, you should "Delete the old map folder.". My question is simply: I assume I should delete the folder entitled 'Western_Europe_1GB' (after all, this is the folder for the map! ) but....what should I do re the other folder called 'maps' with the .tlv file in which clearly relates to the currently installed map?

If left in place, will a new .tlv file relating to the new map be created as part of the Fast Activate routine to replace the old one? If deleted, will the unit look for a .tlv similar .tlv file relating to the new map? Anything I should pay particular attention to when trying to use Fast Activate or any order of steps recommended?

Sorry if I'm being dumb but just want to be clear before I proceed.

PS. I've found a 16gb SDHC card lying about. Once I've sorted the above out and got it working satisfacorily, I'd like to upgrade to the v9.170 SE Navcore and use a larger, more fully featured mapset with IQRoutes, ALG, ASR, TTS, HNR etc. I know it's overkill as the mapset I want to use is 2-3gb but...will the unit, now it has the 5.5242 bootloader, read/see/run from a 16gb SDHC (class 4) card? Or is the limit 4gb?

PPS. I assume that, now I have transferred all from from the unit's internal memory to the SD card, I can delete all files on the unit without fear of the unit being unable to read and run from the SD card and thus render me in unbootable and unusable territory..?!

Thanks to all those who can help. Any advice very gratefully received..!

1. OK
2. OK
3. OK
4. OK
5. YES. Don't worry about the "maps" folder. There is nothing that you ever need to do with it.
6. See point 5.
7. OK, no problem.
8. YES. There is no limit.
9. Your unit's internal memory & SDHC card can not talk to each other. You have to run the unit with a full setup on the internal or a full setup on the card. If you prefer the card setup, you can leave the setup on the internal or delete it, your choice.

Thanks tendriver for your quick reply - much appreciated!

I did read somewhere (can't remember where!) that the .tlv file in the 'maps' folder was used by a One XL to tell the unit which map and version of map is loaded on the unit? Given you're advice to simply ignore that folder and file, would I be better deleting it before installing and activating a new mapset or just leave it?

On a side issue, the latest official Navcore (ie. 8.010) seems to use a lot of ram (only 3.5mb ram free). I know that several SE navcores have been put together for this model (One XL v1, 32mb RAM) which better utilise the limited amount of RAM on these units. Which navcore would I best loading to take advantage of the full features of newer mapsets?

I know this question must have asked many many times but I have waded through the navcore and general discussion forums and am a bit lost..:scratch_one-s_head_

Cheers :)

So, is the problem with internal setup or the one on the SD?
And why not simply copy the working setup and change the map if necessary?

Thu Jun 06, 2013 11:39 am

Downunder,

Thanks for you answer, the problem is happening on both, the internal and the sd. I can't pass the splash screen, I ran the TT clear flash tool. So far I can't get pass the splash screen.

CurrentMap=
CurrentMapVersion=0.0

The 2 lines above tell us that either there are no maps on the internal and the SD card, or the maps are not patched. Your data shows that you have ttgo.bak & ttgo.ori files, which prevents us from getting a true and accurate ttgo.bif file reading.
Remove the SD card. Delete the ttgo.bak & ttgo.ori files from the internal. Disconnect the device & reboot it. Run TomTom Current Configuration {13.11.2011} again. Post the results here.

Tendriver, I am following your directions very close, I deleted the 2 files you mention, I ran fastactivate to make sure every single step was done. They are, and here are the results. I am sorry if I am doing something wrong, but I have been very careful in terms of posting the proper results.
Waiting for your knowledge and generosity.

If you followed the directions carefully, you would only have 1 set of results from the SD card instead of 2. Also you would only have 1 set of results from the internal instead of the mile long mess that you have posted.
I don't recall asking you to run FastActivate!!
