I've recently revived an old One XL I had thanks to this forum, the problem with the unit initially was the USB connector had broken off. I made a repair and it worked for a week or two but has now completely broken off taking the tracks on the circuit board with it, it's unrepairable. I've since regulated a cig lighter to 3.7v and hardwired into the small battery plug on the board and done away with the battery.

The problem now is as soon as the unit has to give out voice guidance it closes and reboots or I get black and white bars on the screen and have to reset it. It happens with any voice, computer or normal, as soon as a sound is needed it closes. Could it be related to my earlier repair? If I disable voice the unit works fine. Any suggestions?

One XL, Navcore 9.205, Map 870.3413 UK and Ire, boot 5.537

I would say the power supply cannot supply enough current to power the device, USB is 500mA at 5V, Batteries can produce a lot more current than 500mA

And a TT car charger puts out 5v2A.

I'm no electronics engineer but surely the extra juice needed to say calculate a route when the processor is at full load would be comparable to the power needed to run a voice and yet the unit ran all day today without fail with the voice disabled, although I did have the speaker plug out yesterday with voice enabled and it also ran fine which would suggest that the prob isn't software related.

The reason for the 3.7v is simply because that's what the battery tested at with a voltmeter

Sounds like the PSU can cope with everything until the internal amplifier/speaker is turned on, and then the voltage drop is enough to disrupt the processor causing the crash, How did you convert the voltage down to 3.7v from 5v?

I removed the clamp and fed it the full 5v, all voices including the computer ones are working nicely, ta very much FBF and Tendriver
