TomTom Rider 2ND edition. What would you advise?

Postby BJ-Web » Thu Feb 14, 2013 9:26 pm

ok, ok
You're right: too less informations
Now, after your link:

TTGO.BIF:
DeviceName=TomTom RIDER
DeviceVersionHW=RIDER
BootLoaderVersion=55012
ApplicationVersionVersionNumber=7901
ApplicationVersion=9181
CurrentMap=Western_Europe
CurrentMapVersion=675.1322
TTGO.BAK:
Not Found...
TTGO.ORI:
Not Found...
TTNAVIGATOR.BIF:
Not Found...

But i copied the "9.205.rider3.CAB-navcore-RIDER" to the SD-Card overwriting the original files of NC 7.9xx and it says "ApplicationVersionVersionNumber=7901" already.
But thats not a prob for me. Now, after fastactivation, the tomtomHome application starts automatically. i guess that's good...
now trying out downloading and patching a map "Europe_2GB 900.4602".
i will tell my story (if anyone will hear that :chok_mini:)
bye

1. The ttgo.bif file will not show "ApplicationVersionVersionNumber=9.205 until the device is booted with the 9.205 card in it.
2. Europe_2GB v900.4602 is 2390 MBs in size & requires a SDHC 4GB card.

status report after downloading map

Postby BJ-Web » Fri Feb 15, 2013 1:32 pm

Hi tendriver,
ok, then i will boot my navi next time (when i can power it up, cause my home charger was lost and the new one is one the run, no motivation for open the battery case to charge with 12V, it's a BMW with many screws to reach the battery ...)
That's my temporarily problem that i cannot work with the rider only with the SD-Card...
Now i downloaded the 12 parts of the Europe_2GB and extracted them to a (133-speed CnMemory-4GB-SD-Card and: without HC) an the fastactivity worked:

5219

TT Home patched like a charme with the FastActivator, really good and comfortable work!
So i only wait for the power cord to boot the device.
i will report soon :scratch_one-s_head_
bye

Experiences with rider2, NC 9.205 & 9.500 and several Maps

Postby BJ-Web » Wed Feb 20, 2013 4:42 pm

Hi Folks,

so i wanna tell you a few things i worked out with my Rider 2nd.
First my dates:
- working on Windows XP SP3 32bit
- have a Rider 2nd Generation from 2007 with standard 1GB SD-Card and NC 7.901
- cards managed with an USB-Cardreader ('cause my power adapter was lost)
.
Good, target was a ugrade to newer navcore and maps of europe.
the maps are bigger than 1GB so i bought a CnMemory 4GB SD Card 133-speed without HC.
then i downloaded the maps 900.4602, 900.4608 and 900.4617 (without an premium account puh... :( )
Installed TomTom Home2 on the PC, downloaded the one file asking to work with the Rider. No further updates o. a.
With the FastActivator installing the NC and maps worked like a charm and the results were:

5232 (pic from TT Home on PC)

and after reboot 5233 (pic from TT Home on PC)

so tendriver was right. Changes only after new start of the device.
all good, no?

523452355236 (pics from TT Home on PC)

And then after 3 device boots (in the car with 12V :) ): everytime the f... famous red screen:
"you can't work with this map on this device!"
This i tried with all the 900's maps on the 9.205 NC. was not really motivating...
i thought: tendriver maybe was right: i need a SDHC - Card...
then i found the newest navcore 9.500 from downunder (many many thanks to him) and tried that one with all these 900's maps.
Someone will think i have too much time.....
Everytime the same symptomtoms: on PC all ok, on Rider2 red screens...
i guess, the reason is that the card reader simulates a newer device (or SDHC) and on PC the driver/compatibility is present but not at the Rider (or so)...
Then i tried, as a very last try, an older card Western_and_Central_Europe_2GB_895_4436. i don't know why really but it was a thought....
And the result on PC was ok again. And on the device?
Perfect, perfect!!
The 4GB Card with 133-speed is much more faster, the routes will be planned faster and much more options. This really works for me!
And tendriver: you're not right :) : 4GB SD without HC is possible on Rider2.
But thank you very much for support!
I will never touch this running system again...
great forum! thanx to all of you!

hope, this helps someone!

i wish you all a nice day!

1. SDHC - Secure Digital High Capacity memory cards are flash memory cards with a minimum capacity of 4GB (gigabytes). SDHC Cards are the newest version developed for use with digital cameras and other such devices that not only a require a higher capacity card, but also one that comes with a performance to match. I don't know if you can find a non SDHC 4GB card on my side of the "Big Pond".
2. OK.
3. OK.
4. OK.
5. A new ttgo.bif file is created every time a device is booted. It contains the device's current specs at the time of the boot.
6. You just had a simple patching issue.
7. My reference, in post 17 point 2, about needing a SDHC card was based on the current availability/non-availability of a non SDHC 4GB card.
8. TT Home "Operate my device" is just an emulation/simulation & shouldn't be used to check the functionality of a setup.
9. See point 7!! Where did I say 4GB SD without HC is not possible on a Rider2.

If your device screws itself with two different NC's in a similar way, all I can assume is a bootloader that is not really compatible.
Since you use the 5.5012 SDHC is no problem, but I got a few reports that some V9 NC's won't wrok properly wit a BL below 5.5112.
A hard reset followed by the TT clear flash tool might be able to remove unwanted rubbish from memory and help with your problem.
If you get into reboots during use on a regular base let me know and we do some further checks.
The 9.500 should work just fine on your device - what emulation are you using?

He just had a simple newbie patching issue due to a lack of knowledge & experience. His unit is now up and running.

Hi, helpful folk from Navitotal.

An acquaintance of mine has got a TT Rider.
Now, he never did any updates on this device. So yesterday I updated the NC via TT Home to the current version... I failed my notes, so I have to presume it's NC 7.9. His map was a 650 from Sep-2006.

I activated the Europe-South_905.4800 map on it.

The device now accepts SD cards bigger than 2GB. It now has got a 4GB card. So, I have the choice of putting more than one map on it or the bigger Europe map.

If I would change the NC to v9.205 (assuming this still is the most applicable version), then I would be able to activate a Europe-905 map?
What would be the best map of choice for this older Rider?
I suppose 'advanced' functionality like Cspeech, ASR, IQ Routes and ALG would not be used on it.
At this moment the 4754, 4757 and 4799 are available to be activated on TT devices.
Thanks !

tendriver wrote:2. Since 9.205 is a 32MB Rider NC, you just need [Please Register or Login to download file] & these 2 prepatched files. [Please Register or Login to download file]

If (and only if) v9.205 is still the NC of choice could the two
prepatched files mentioned above, be re-uploaded?

(I'm getting confused when browsing the forum and seeing a couple of other NC's with prepatched or edited files like DSA and X_ttsystem etc etc.)

Rider 1st & 2nd edition : 7.901
Urban Rider : 9.205
Rider 5: 9.500

Navcore 9.500 SE Version

Rider Navcore 9.500 Downunder version.

9.205 is available, if you decide that you still want it.

Okay, thanks.
Am I right in assuming that you are advising me to go ahead with either the SE or the Downunder version of the 9.500 NC ?

If I can get this working what would be the best Europe 905 map I could use?
It would be nice to get some soothing words of confirmation.

1. No, I am just advising you that there is a newer navcore than 9.205, and if you don't like 9.500, that 9.205 is still available.

2. You have been here long enuf, to determine this by yourself. Tell me what your choice would be and why. PM me if you wish.

Well, I've updated maps on a couple of TT devices.
And once or twice I fiddled about with copying files from a higher NC.

Now, I just upgrade the NC via TT Home.
But now I am reaching some hard limits.
1. Due to available storage place. Mainly maps bigger than 2GB.
2. Due to NCversion which only accepts suitable maps.

I have not yet consciously placed a 'higher' NC on a given device in order to enable activation of a map which does not belong to a 'lower' NC.

My knowledge of the differences in NC is also very limited. On the one hand it is said that the best NC for a device is the NC TT Home offers you. On the other hand this limits your choice in maps which can be activated.
I am not so much interested in a fresher look, I just want a device which can do its job well with a suitable map

When browsing through the forum and reading several topics dedicated with similar Rider issues I get confused because information may be outdated or different modified NC versions (number and maker) are advised.

Also due to the fact that these devices are not mine. I'm only providing a small service by updating the maps. I don't want to risk bricking a device so I am apprehensive about unscheduled NC changes.

Specifically, in above case, my main point is activating a good Europe map on a TT Rider.
Storage space is not an issue, but NC is.
So, because activation of a map is dependent on the NC version. I should be able to activate at least three current maps.
But, logically, the Rider won't be using advanced features so I wonder what would be my best choice.

You are right that I've been here a while but not long enough to get comfortable with subtle but possible dangerous TT issues.
I do need your help and guidance in that...

1. Reason: When using a nc other than the current one for the device, there is the probability of some feature not functioning properly. Not so with the one designed for the device.
2. Downunder & I have been doing this for several years. AFAWK, we have never bricked a member's device.
3. EVERY map is compatible with 9.2XX & higher.
4. Why not???

Rest assured, I did not want to imply that you guys have caused any bricking. ;-)
I was mainly referring to the possibility of applying the wrong bootloader to a device. That could be fatal is what I understood.

Re. 4: you mean about the rider not using advanced features of higher NC maps?
Well, I mean the XL size, ALG and Cspeech. Would those attributes be a reason for not choosing a map designed for a device built with lower NC? Or does this not present a direct problem?
