TomTom XL IQ Routes

Sat Mar 19, 2011 11:19 am

I have the original TomTom XL IQ Routes and was wondering if there is any way I can enable the text-to-speech that features on the newer models?

Some of the XL models are a bit fuzzy with new Navcores but the computervoices should work just fine.
Make a full backup of your device using the windows explorer and get a Navcore of your choice from (url=http://www.navitotal.com/forums/showthread.php?2831-TomTom-Automatic-Navcore-Installation]here.
Keep in mind that you have to activate your map with a keygen like FastActivate after that.
Computer voices can be found in the forum.

But have you tried if your device suppors TTS by default? Try downling a computer voice with Home before you try a new Navcore - you must log in to your account for that.

When I go onto TomTom HOME the option to add 'computer voices' is greyed out and if I click on it I receive a message saying 'You cannot use this feature because it is not supported by your device.

Copying the data off the TomTom onto my hard drive now and will then have a look into the Navcores.

The US version of your unit supports TTS. I see no reason why yours won't with the right map & voice. What is your current navcore?

I'm on 9.061

I know that the device has 64Mb of RAM, so should I just download the most recent Navcore that is for 64Mb devices from the Navcore thread? Which happens to be 9.150 ?

I think the the 9,205 or the 9.160 should work as well.
But before you start anything make a full backup of your device using the Windows Explorer and not Home!

I've just had a look in the Voices Forum but couldn't see any that are labelled as being computer voices. Have I overlooked them or am I looking in the wrong place?

Also, the navcore update went well and I'm very impressed with how it runs now, feels much faster and more responsive. Is there anywhere where I can see a list of improvements between each navcore?

1. All TTS voices are computer.

2. No. Not since TomTom.com reworked their website.

Thanks for your reply. I've done the Navcore update and copied the voices over as per the instructions in that thread. However, I can select the voice on the TomTom, but it doesn't actually say a word when you're driving. The other voices are working fine still. Any ideas? There was no mention of using AutoActivate for the voice, but should I have done that?

I've now tried AutoActivate and FastActivate, but to no avail.

I also have a bit of extra info in case it's of any use. Firstly, when you select the voice and choose to test it, nothing happens. And when you power off the device after having selected the voice for the first time it resets itself instead.

Any ideas would be more than welcome.
