Postby bpfifa08 » Sun Mar 12, 2017 6:40 pm

Hello everybody,

I am having a big problem with my tomtom Start, it won't boot, it is only show a flashing red X.

I tried reset it, format it, slow format, a low level format. and still nothing.

I don't have a full backup of the system, and from what I am seeing it's not creating the ttgo.bif file

TOMTOM START
Model: 1EX00
Part number 4EX0.0001.02

Can anybody give a hand with this please,

Cheers,
BP

TomTom Support wrote:A flashing X means the gps is having a problem with loading the software in it's flash memory. It can usually be resolved by re-install the application software in the gps. Here are the steps for doing this.

First: make a backup of the contents of the gps using windows explorer.

Second: check the flash memory in the gps to make sure there are no errors.

Third: If the memory has no errors or they were repaired by the check disk utility you just ran, uninstall the software on the gps and reinstall it.

Note: when reinstalling the gps software you may have to perform up to three updates to get everything installed. The gps may not work correctly until all the updates are installed. Be sure to restart Home and the gps between each update. If the gps won't connect to the computer normally just reset the gps with it connected to the computer. The gps should automatically try to connect to the pc.

Forth: If the gps is working now, there are a few misc files like startup / shutdown screens that you can copy back to the gps from the backup copynyou made. Here is a list of those files. Just use windows explorer to copy them from the main directory of the backup to the main directory in the gps. Do worry if you do not find all these files are not on your backup. Not all gps models have all these files.

1. antitheftw.bmp (this may have the named antitheft.bmp)
2. autorun.inf
3. splashw.bmp (this may have the named splash.bmp)
4. suspendw.bmp (this may have the named suspend.bmp)
5. tomtom.ico

If everything is working ok now we recommend making a final backup of your gps. That way if something happens in the future all you have to do is delete everything on the gps and copy the backup to the gps and you are done.

If this has failed to resolve your problem, you might consider reformatting the gps's memory. Here is a link for the procedure.

I already did all of that... (forgot to mention)
The disk utility came with no errors, also tested with hdtune as well.

After format, I connected with tomtom home, it says it needs to update, it downloads the navcore, installs and after
that asks to reboot the gps and comes back on, then the red cross again

Here is a list of the files after doing that:

It might be an idea to delete and recreate the partition...then re-format

Also try a different navcore:

If you mean runing diskpart delete all the partitions, and the create new partition and format again.

same result I did that just now.

As for the navcore, I extracted the rar and copy to the memory. Is this correct?

I just get another tomtom logo and nothing more, it appears to be frozen.

Sounds like the RAM might be corrupt as the drive is holding the files Ok but the RAM can't hold anything in memory

No luck...

I just get the tomtom logo and nothing more.

I got and idea, not sure if it would work, but...

What if I made the ttgo.bif file? copy from another identical gps, and change the serial number and identifier.

Would that work?
