TomTom using half screen as rotated vertically??

Postby nikotime » Sat Dec 21, 2013 11:42 am

Hi all, I purchased a TomTom XL (1GB internal memory version) from eBay for my Mum but when I have used doomlord's latest UNCI.exe, a recent UK and Ireland map and fastactivate I'm getting the screen showing at a 90 degree angle but only taking up 50% of it? I've attached pictures as I'm sure that doesn't make sense. Basically when I boot up TomTom shows using the full screen, then it goes weird and jumps to the left hand side.

On a possibly related note, the maps are not activating but will come to that problem later I reckon!

Cheers. Have successfully updated my own XL but not sure what is going on with this one.

I think doomlord makes screens rotate :)
My guess would be that you have a Navcore that doesn't understand the hardware specs.
Question is: is that a bootloader configuration fault, or a Navcore configuration fault.
I'd try a different Navcore first, why not restore from backup, then try Downunder35m's v9.510 installer.

Very sorry downunder! No idea who doomlord is - posted in a rush. I tried to restore from a backup but it doesn't seem to work so unsure whether I messed up the backup or what. To correct my initial post, I used Downunder's universal navcore, UK maps with the automatic installer and fast activate

Plaese try the 9.485 Navcore instead or check is setting the emulation (manually by editing the reskin file) to 43-XL helps.
Some XL models use a different way to address the screen which can result in a twisted screen like yours.
But your backup or the original Navcore that Home would install should work fine in all cases.

what does this mean?
I have the same problem and none of the fixes that I found helped (aside from installing 465 but my map does not work on that)
The only thing that I didn't do is to try to swap files between backup and my tomtomdevice that i think you are suggesting in this line but I do not understand to wich files "Navcore" is refering? all of them ? system files? config files? and if so which ones?
Or would it be easyer to just point to a file and edit values of it in hex editor?

Some XL models use a different screen and I can remember that there was another user a long time ago with similar issues.
Since you using my Navcore, have you tried to change the emulation in the menu?
If the result is the same in all emulations you might have to try a few other Navcore versions or if in daoubt stick with a patched original Navcore.

Any normal text editor, I prefer Notepadd++ as it can handle basically any text format I throw at it.
