Tomtom VIA1535T experiences

I'm thinking of buying a new Tomtom VIA1535T in the US, here are the specs:

It has 4GB internal flash memory and a micro-sd cardslot, this would be enough space for the next few years. Does anyone know this model and if it can run SE navcores (+maps) from the sd-card slot.

If, as I suspect, this runs v10 navcore (application) then you can do bugger-all with it. See:-

There is NO (current) way to manipulate/crack/patch/copy/clone or otherwise modify these v10 navcores which are on all the latest devices and run through MyTomTom rather than TTHome.

The reason why all of the new TomToms since September 2010 (such as the GO1000 range and all VIA models) do not show up as a drive on the computer is because they are using the Linux based file systems instead of FAT/FAT32.

This wasn't a choice by TomTom to make it harder for us to copy or crack their devices. This was done because Microsoft successfully sued TomTom for using the Microsoft FAT and FAT32 file systems on a Linux platform, which Microsoft claimed was an infringement.

Therefore TomTom were forced to use another file system other than a Windows based one. TomToms run on Linux anyway, so the choice to use Linux file systems do make the devices run faster than ever before, as their file systems are generally more reliable and capable than the older FAT/FAT32. This is a positive for customers, but it's a negative for us who want to update our new TomToms by sharing files with each other, as we do on here and other forums.

The only way to currently update the new TomToms is to use their program called "MyTomTom," although you have to pay for updating most things like new maps and safety cameras.

So far, nobody has been successful in trying to "crack" this new system, or rather make it possible for us to update the new TomToms using Windows Explorer.

I wouldn't touch any model that has come out in the last year!!!

Quick question - debating on getting a VIA 1535TM on black friday or a Go 720 to update my one XL-S (64mb US edition). The one I currently have is good but lags on cities or on multi lane highways. The new one will get me maps and traffic. Only concern is to add voices (premium) to it.

What I don't get is even though it's Linux, so what? I can't imagine noone has figured out how to mount the linux file system to a linux box or even a windows box.

Another question would be, anyway to make premium voices into 'non-premium' ? I doubt it, but figure I ask... TIA.

v10 Navcore as the Via uses has been out since Sep-10 and no-one's cracked it yet although some are trying hard.

Premium voices are just that (paid for) but easily cracked just as new maps are.

Right - and therefore still not compatible with v10 Navs. My understanding is that they are still encrypted - we are just creating the corresponding passphrase. So these still won't work. I assume non-premium voices do work on v10 Navs, right?

And could these premium-voices be converted to non-premium with the tools we have already available? Kind off extracting the pieces and making a new one out of it?

the current navcore for these pieces of junk is v11.xxx!!
