TomTom XL2 IQ Routes Edition - how to add map - please help

Postby bigweed » Fri Oct 12, 2012 4:43 pm

Hi all

I have bought a TomTom XL2 IQ Routes Edition. I am looking to add an extra map to it - the Western Mediterranean Islands - and have some questions. Hopefully someone can help, as I have been reading internet posts and forums for hours yesterday and today!

1 - What is the purpose of patching TomTom HOME? Its just a piece of software which lets my PC talk to my TomTom, and I have been searching for a reason why people patch them, so I can figure out whether I need to. But I cannot find an answer to this!

2 - How do I find my navcore version? I have seen various postings saying that it should be in the device menu, Version Information screen - this does not exist on my device. I have also read that it should be in the TomTom HOME software somewhere - I have searched everywhere within the software but cannot find this. I also read that I can open the ttgo.bif file, and the Navcore version is the ApplicationVersionVersionNumber. Mine says 9465 - does this mean my navcore is 9.465? Also, in that file, I can see my CurrentMapVersion is 885.4009 and ApplicationVersion is 1074274.2, not sure if this is relevant for what I need to do??

3 - Which map for the Western Mediterranean Islands do I need? I have seen it available for download in a few places, and not sure which version of the map I need. I have checked the compatibility list for maps, but am still clueless as to which one I need. Can someone tell me which map I can use? Also, does it need a meta file, as the one on these forums does not have a meta file?

After obtaining the map, I think I need to do the following in this order to get it to work, can someone please chip in with any extra information or tell me I am right/wrong?

a - Backup the TomTom unit - this means copying the whole of the TomTom drive from my PC, and pasting to another location, and also to a CD
b - Update the TomTom using TT HOME
c - Soft reset TomTom unit
d - Do another backup of TomTom as step per a
e - Patch the navcore using FastActivate
f - Copy the downloaded map to the root of the TomTom
g - Generate a key using a keygen program - Alberts Easy Activator seems to be recommended, are there any others which are easy to use for a novice?
h - Reboot the TomTom

That is what I have worked out so far. Can someone please confirm this, tell me where I am going wrong, and give me any more info I need? I have never done this before, so dont hate me for asking basic questions!!

Thanks
Naz

If I cannot get a map for just the Western Mediterranean Islands, then is there a bigger map which includes this area, that I could use instead? It needs to fit the TomTom, which has 1GB internal storage, can someone please help with that?

WELCOME TO THE NAVITOTAL TT SECTION!!!

1. TT home must be patched to use "Operate my Device" with a modified device. If you don't use this feature, no patching of TT Home is required.
2. Yep, 9.465 is the current navcore for your XL2 IQ.
3. WMI 895.4436 is the only version in the current 895 Edition. Yes, a meta code is needed to mod the map. You are correct, there is no posted meta code for this map, & it is unusable. Same for the 890 Edition.

a. OK. A CD copy is your option.
b. Your XL2 IQ is up to date.
c. Not necessary.
d. Not necessary.
e. Not yet.
f. OK.
g. Albert's EA is OK. Don't know where you saw it recommended. We prefer FastActivate Premium 1.8.9.0 Updated 05.10.2012. Now mod the navcore & map at the same time. If you choose to mod TT Home, please advise..
h. OK.

WMI covers: Mallorca, Menorca, Ibiza, Malta, Sicily, Sardinia, Corsica

Option 1: Italy 895 Edition which covers: Italy, Malta, Sardinia, Sicily, San Marino, the Vatican City

Option 2: Western_Mediterranean_Islands 885_4010, which came out the middle of March 2012. It has a meta posted & is usable.
