I have bought a TomTom XL2 IQ Routes Edition. I am looking to add an extra map to it - the Western Mediterranean Islands - and have some questions. Hopefully someone can help, as I have been reading internet posts and forums for hours yesterday and today!
1 - What is the purpose of patching TomTom HOME? Its just a piece of software which lets my PC talk to my TomTom, and I have been searching for a reason why people patch them, so I can figure out whether I need to. But I cannot find an answer to this!
2 - How do I find my navcore version? I have seen various postings saying that it should be in the device menu, Version Information screen - this does not exist on my device. I have also read that it should be in the TomTom HOME software somewhere - I have searched everywhere within the software but cannot find this. I also read that I can open the ttgo.bif file, and the Navcore version is the ApplicationVersionVersionNumber. Mine says 9465 - does this mean my navcore is 9.465? Also, in that file, I can see my CurrentMapVersion is 885.4009 and ApplicationVersion is 1074274.2, not sure if this is relevant for what I need to do??
3 - Which map for the Western Mediterranean Islands do I need? I have seen it available for download in a few places, and not sure which version of the map I need. I have checked the compatibility list for maps, but am still clueless as to which one I need. Can someone tell me which map I can use? Also, does it need a meta file, as the one on these forums does not have a meta file?
After obtaining the map, I think I need to do the following in this order to get it to work, can someone please chip in with any extra information or tell me I am right/wrong?
a - Backup the TomTom unit - this means copying the whole of the TomTom drive from my PC, and pasting to another location, and also to a CD
b - Update the TomTom using TT HOME
c - Soft reset TomTom unit
d - Do another backup of TomTom as step per a
e - Patch the navcore using FastActivate
f - Copy the downloaded map to the root of the TomTom
g - Generate a key using a keygen program - Alberts Easy Activator seems to be recommended, are there any others which are easy to use for a novice?
h - Reboot the TomTom
That is what I have worked out so far. Can someone please confirm this, tell me where I am going wrong, and give me any more info I need? I have never done this before, so dont hate me for asking basic questions!!
Thanks
Naz
