TomTom XXL 540TM

Postby 66wow99 » Fri Aug 09, 2024 5:21 am

Bought one from eBay this week more for nostalgia than anything else, but would still like to use it. It has 'lifetime map updates'. Im still waiting for it, but I now find that it may be missing a code to unlock the updates. Secondly, is this device eol and if so can it still update? Any advice would be much appreciated.

Yes, it will be EOL...but of course you can still update it with what there is available

'Lifetime updates' is a bit misleading...it means that the map it was sold with can be updated for life but that map could still be very old and they've already decided that it's life is already over as it's EOL. Downloading a newer map is preferable over updating an old map as the new map will include roads whereas the old 'lifetime updated' map won't.

The latest navcore for your device is [Please Register or Login to download file]

You didn't say which map you were interested in but I'm assuming Canada-Alaska 1110_11860

Thank you for that reply. So, as soon as my device arrives, I install navcore 9.541, and install the latest map available for this device. Correct? Id preferably want a Canadian map given room limitations on this model. Is this new map avail. for this device? I'm guessing an update would not be available after this install, so I'd have to remove what I have and install the update currently available at the time? Anyway, thank you a ton!

I found 2 navcores which are similar but different. One is a 'Go' version and the other is a 'SE' version. Which one works for my model tomtom XXL 540tm?

You need the LE version which I'd already linked you to above

First of all do a full file backup in Windows Explorer in case you want to revert

Then check if it's already got NC 9.541 before you update the map etc

Here is the map: [Please Register or Login to download file]

Works splendidly! I used this very same model back in 2010/11 on my Miami trip. Got damaged by one of my kids, but got this one recently. And Susan voice is back! A heads up to others if getting 'ttgo.bif' missing error. Just copy this file from your backup to root, and with fast activate it will update!
To you, I appreciate you!

Thanks again. Do have a bit of a follow up. How do you get rid of the extra screen that pops up talking about safety after you set the address you want to drive to? It's an unnecessary step to get to the actual navigation screen.
BTW, using a stylus pen works wonders on this screen as it can get clunky just using your finger.
