Welcome to Navitotal!!
US 940.5993 is the ONLY newer usable US map for your 1GB ONE. There is nothing to be gained by changing your navcore.

Hi, I'm in the same position as ararat13... except geographically!

Just acquired an old Tomtom ONE v3 (1GB) with the following setup

ttgo.bif:
DeviceName=TomTom ONE
DeviceVersionHW=ONE (v6)
DeviceSerialNumber=Y2xxxxxxxxxx
BootLoaderVersion=55001
ApplicationVersionVersionNumber=8010
ApplicationVersion=9369
CurrentMap=Western_Europe_1GB
CurrentMapVersion=710.1561

Map(s):
G:\Western_Europe_1GB\

Storage:
Size 977MB, Free 35MB

As you can see, map is extremely old. I updated the navcore from 7.16 (I think) to 8.010 and I have been trying for three days to put newer maps on, including Europe West 940.5993. Every time I get the message "You cannot use this map on this device". I've tried a variety of Activators including the latest FastActivate.
I'm not a newbie (though there's nothing wrong with them!); I've been happily hacking and upgrading winCE satnavs for years, but this one has got me licked. It's my first genuine Tomtom, so I may be missing something obvious. Any suggestions, anyone?

:bs_quesexclaim:

If there's a problem with the Europe West maps, individual maps for UK, France and Iberia would be okay!

Thanks, folks!

Europe_West_940_5993 [1184MB] OR
Europe_West_940_5993 with Automatic Installer & Patcher
Not usable yet! No meta code!

That might be the problem, no meta. So activation is not possible.

Try this one instead:

Europe_1GB_West_945_6243 [846MB] OR
Europe_1GB_West_945_6243 with Automatic Installer & Patcher
; Europe_1GB_West v945.6243

Thanks for prompt response Shaman.

The one I tried was
Europe_1GB_West_940.5993 [831MB] OR
Europe_1GB_West_940.5993 with Automatic Installer & Patcher
; Europe_1GB_West 940.5993
2C C9 73 22 3E EB CC 69 11 63 EC A6 AF EE 88 42 Europe_1GB_West-100207.meta

which has got a meta. (The larger map wouldn't fit my device anyway). It's something else causing me the problem I think. I've even tried maps 890... 900... and 925... all with meta codes, and which have run perfectly on my winCE device. They give the same error message.

I'll try the map you suggest, but I'm not very hopeful. Thanks though - I'll let you know!

Put FastActivate.exe & a copy of your ttgo.bif file in the Europe_1GB_West 940.5993 map folder or the Europe_1GB_West v945.6243 map folder & run option 2.

Thanks, tendriver. Done that - with the Europe_1GB_West v945.6243 map. Put Fastactivate.exe and ttgo.bif both inside the map folder. Ran the options to update meta.txt and patch navcore, just to be sure, then option 2 to patch maps. All seems to go well... but...

Same result - "You cannot use this map on this device".

Driving me mad.

Confirm that you have a .meta & a .meta.dct file in the map folder.

SUCCESS AT LAST, but I don't know why! :023:

I was only repeating the same actions I've been trying methodically for 4 days.

The difference was (and this might have been the crucial difference..?..) that this time Tom Tom HOME failed to boot up on my laptop when I plugged the device in. (Possibly because I'd done a format and reinstall on the TT device internal memory). Does Tom Tome HOME have some code to prevent the likes of us from upgrading the maps, etc? If so, users should be warned.

Either way, I'm delighted. Many thanks to tendriver and Shaman for their suggestions.

BTW, is there somewhere a useful tutorial which explains exactly how the .meta and .meta.dct files work? I'd like to understand the system more fully.

THANKS AGAIN FOLKS.

1. WTG!!
2. Shouldn't make any difference.
3. NO.
4. NO. We have never had a need to get that techy.

PROBLEM IDENTIFIED AT LAST!

The successful patching was done in an old Windows XP partition on my laptop. For some reason my Windows 7 (64 bit) fails consistently to patch using Fastactivate - even using "run as administrator". I always get INCOMPLETE MAP or ERROR messages. It's taken me 5 days to identify the problem, but I've still no idea why it happens - there must be hundreds of Win 7 users using Fastactivate successfully. (Anyone else had this touble?)

I'm posting this in case it helps anybody else.

ONCE AGAIN, THANKS FOR YOUR HELP & PATIENCE
