Traffic receiver

Postby redbull420 » Fri Mar 30, 2012 7:49 am

Hello all.

I am interested in getting a RDS-TMC traffic receiver lead for my Go520. I have never used on of these before, it seems there are many on ebay which is or is not a good sign.
Do I need to subscribe to anything to use it? I have recently patched my Go from using this site so am wondering if the service will work.

Some people seem to advertise these leads as a lifetime subscription to traffic services.

Can anyone advise how these work. Do I just buy one plug and play or do I subscribe and pay for the service. Or is there patches available here to enable the service.

thanks in advance.

1. It depends on your region, USA needs a special model, all other countries use the the same.
2. The latest and so far best version is the one with the charging cable and plug, forget about other models.
3. TMC does not cost a thing but you have to be in an area were you can receive traffic infos over the radio - here in AU for example you only get TMC in the major cities and on the goldcoast.

Slight correction:
Some areas (particularly US and Canada, but maybe others too) require a 'paid' license/subscription in order to decode the broadcast TMC signals.
Whether such a license is included with the sale of an add-on TMC receiver, I don't know--no experience with these.
But that's just my opinion..I could be wrong.

1 caveat. If you use a SE or DSA MOD navcore, set it to X30 or lower.

The power plug version works in any TT with or without the separate RDS-TMC socket on the bottom. Apparently it looks for the HD Traffic first, if you have a subscription, and if you don't/it can't find that signal it downloads from Classic FM. It seems much quicker than the separate cable version I had before:)
