A repeat of the question in post 24: "How do you have Main Menu, Change preferences, Planning preferences set up?"

Fastest route using IQ Routes.
Not avoiding toll roads
Pretty much standard, i dont alter anything in the planning preferences.

In fact, when ever i go North it asks me do i want to avaoid the toll routes i say yes, I dont alter planning preferences as i will only forget about it if i went to Europe, then one sleep morning i will not remember i have altered things and end up on the National roads until i wake up.lol.

Seriously, i never alter anything .

It is not a matter of altering anything. There are 8 options & you have to make a select for each of them.

I am not sure what you are asking to be honest.

These comments tell me that you are already defeating the use of the device by creating a route, but not following it. Accurate IQ Routing depends on users following the IQ generated route. The IQ data is updated as problems are encountered along that route. It has to learn not to go a certain way by experience, just as you had to learn when & where the trouble spots are. The TT generated routes won't get any better, if you aren't willing to help update the IQ data.
Since you already know the routes from experience, it appears that you just use the device as a toy to play with along the way.

I agree, why use a GPS for known routes or the daily drive if you
a) know a better route
b) don't plan on following the instructions from the GPS

You are basically complaining about things you would not even notice in an area unknown to you ;)
And let my guess, the official route goes over major roads and your through residential areas? ;)

Sat Jan 12, 2013 7:50 am

First of all, I'm not complaining.

No, I do not go through residential areas.

2 points in which you are wrong.

Satnav is not a toy to me. Does not matter if I have been somewhere before, I plug the satnav in for eta or just in case I need to be diverted.
Now that's not playing is it.

I have travelled in many countries over the years with my satnav and as a truck driver without problems. All I was doing was reporting back what happened when I put the 9700 navcore on it. Perhaps I shouldn't have bothered, as now you assume I'm up to all manner of things.
I shall say no more on this subject, as it's obviously wrong in what I am doing. I thought I knew how to use a satnav until you pointed it out to me I don't.. No offence taken by the way.

Sat Jan 12, 2013 7:56 am

Well, I guess in that case it is best to wait for TT to offer this Navcore and after that complain to them.
Maybe they will change this version before the official release, if not you can always take it out with them.
If the 8.398 is fine then the routing has changed.
There is a reason why you get those routes suggested, but we can not change that ;)

1. We are telling you that you are underutilizing your unit.
2. By using your device to it's full potential, you will be helping your fellow TT users, TT & yourself.
3. No offense intended.

I only need to enter vehicle details

Limited speed routes with IQ.

warning of speed cams and low bridges

avoid paved areas

warn me of toll roads

show street names and signs

never remind me of which side of the road to drive in the safety preferences

show street names

always use iq routes for truck

ask me if i want to change that route

ask me about ferries

nothing else to add.

As i said before. Using a different navcore set up the same, it tells me to turn off at a certain junction, after i pass that because its less likely for congestion the route i take and only 6 miles longer but the same journey time.

8398 navcore then recalculates to the way i want to go.

9700 keeps telling me to turn off for 4 more junctions and turn around, by the time i am 4 junctions further up the road my route is not the quickes but it still tells me to turn around.

Now if i was on a route i didnt know i would be listening to the satnav, but i think it's best to test on a route i know, it then shows me if i or the satnav are synchronised, if you see what i mean.

Driving a truck with low bridges, narrow roads, no right or left turns, residential areas etc can be a nightmare but common sense is obviously the way to go.

Of course we know its not fool proof as it has tried to take me down a 7.5 tonne limit on a few occasions, i see the sign i don't go down there.

Just my assesment of the 9700 navcore i used thats all it was.

If you still think i am not using the satnav to its full potential then so be it, I think i use it correct. we all have opinions.

As i have said before, this is a great forum with helpful members and long may it reign.

It's your unit, so use it any way you wish. It is not a matter of opinion. We are here to help & advise our members, as well as helping to make the TT IQ Planning data better, so ALL TT users benefit from the most accurate IQ route planning possible.

Downloaded this navcore and installed the version for 32mb devices with the installer with( the nice music) on an old tt one new edition.Installed the 901 maps and it booted up fine. However vocalizer voice wouldn't work as it had on nc 8.398 from downunder.I only had 3 pages of main menu and 6 pages of preference menus so I couldn't access skin chooser option. So i edited the reskin file deleting self-self mode and when it booted up i had 4 pages of main menu options and 8 pages of preference menus.I think it's running x30 emu and vocalizer voice is working now. The free ram can dart about a bit between an incredible 13.8 and 5.0mb but usually settles about 6 or 7 mb. Downunders navcores always have loads of free ram compared to other prepared navcores.
Many thanks

Hi great site been using it for a long time. I connected my 720 with truck navcore 8398 map Euro Truck 901.4683 last night to do some mapshare it then proceeded to update my navcore to 9.700. Great i thought. Wrong ! when i went to set the height of my truck which is 14'6" the program is now missing the (') & (") so now the program is useless as a truck satnav. It's ok in metric there is a decimal point but no good in imperial the ' & " are missing which is great if you carry a conversion chart with you is it a mistake or are they trying to phase out imperial? Also the map correction facility for low bridges is missing the same colons. I found this out because all the maps have a mistake in the low bridges at Loughborough the A60 Liecester road has a low bridge marked at 14'6 it is actually 14'3" so you can't change that either. I hope this will help the site to warn people not to do the update. I have reverted to my backup and my system is now fine.
regards tony

why is the power drain so much lighter with 9.700 than it was with 8.398?
